I am an RN, so I will answer this question as professionally as possible. Elevated blood pressure, or hypertensive episodes, may be caused by several factors. If it is caused by stressful events, then I would help her remain calm. However, it is best to make an appointment with a physician to determine the cause. Hypertension can lead to a stroke or cardiac arrest, and in the elderly, physical therapy for recovery is not impossible but it is more difficult for rehabilitation. In the meantime, have her stay away from salty items, too much fluid, keep her pain-free, and make sure she is capable of breathing (watch her allergies) to prevent hypoxia (or lack of oxygen). Hope this helps, hon. Good luck. ---- After reading some of the responses, NEVER give her a cold drink of water because of her age. It could shock her system. Homeopathic remedies or OTC (over the counter) drugs mixed with prescribed medicines is a BIG "no-no" due to adverse effects. Just get her to a doctor as soon as possible.

Over and above the excellent homeopathic advice given above, you could teach her some simple yogic breathing exercises. These will calm her down, get her focused on her inner self and as a result help regulate her blood pressure.

Just have her talk to you and get her a VERY COLD drink of WATER, as it goes down, it relaxes her, and so does the blood pressure on most patients

But, let her talk as much, as talking helps calm her down,

In addition to what the nurse says, which to me is the most practical (I have hypertension, too), there's a great tea made from hawthorn berries. It's very soothing, and hawthorn does help lower bp.
Good luck!

You'll have to scroll down to find it on the link, but it's there.

Better get her to see a doctor who might prescribe the proper antihypertensive medication. If her blood pressure is really high, herbal medication and supplements may not be enough!
