It may be a famous folk song. Would like to have it played at a wedding (so records would be good), but first would like to know that the lyrics may be appropriate (even though no one would understand it I admit). Cheers.

the woman's name is Karen Matheson. she is the lead singer of a scottish folk group called "Capercaillie". she is listed as "Ceilidh Singer" with her band in the movie (ceilidh is a social dance in ireland and scotland). i think the name of the song is "Morag's Lament", also known as "Morag's Cradle Song" which is an Irish lullaby.

Why would you want the lyrics in English?
I stood in the market place in Dumfries the other day while young man busked he song you speak of on his fiddle. Almost brought me to tears.
Use it, enjoy it, in its native Gaelic. It's wonderful, and sorry, It's Morag's lament, sung by Karen Matheson
