I have tried Revlon Colorstay, Mac Studio Tech, Bourjois Matt Lovely, Maybelline Cashmere Perfect... all of them, after a day at work, leave my face a bit patchy with really visible pores. I like to go out straight from work but always feel like I look crap.

Has anyone found one that really does still look good 10 hours later?

Hi it sounds like you are using the wrong shade for your skin colour if it goes pathcy on you. I always get ther colour for my skin colour not darker. I recently got a foundation that was darker than my normal skin colour and i had the patchy problem. I know you may think it covers better but it doesnt, you want to hide your pores. The one im using at the moment is Infaliable from loreal it lasts for 15 hours, its the best one i have bought bit pricey but it is worth it, just get the one nearest to your skin colour my one is a little too dark yet it looked fine in the shop. Just try a few on your hand and walk into the normal daylight and you will beable to choose the correct colour for your skin. But it lasts all day and it does what it says on the back. Also its always best to go over your foundation with a pressed powder.

I like the Dream matte mouse foudation by maybelline, but i think that you should try a powder. It sounds like everytime you use a liquid, your face gets patchy and the pores stand out. Try just applying a pressed or loose powder. True, you might have to touch-up once or twice, but that's better than being patchy. The only reason you would need to patch up is just because it rubbed off, not because it's making your face look bad. I hope this helps!

p.s. I would recommend the Covergirl Outlast powder. It works great for me!

i dont think you'll ever be able to find a foundation that lasts allday! I've always had the same problem. what i personally do is, apply my face cream in the morning, wait about 10 minutes for it to soak into the skin, i then use a max factor foundation. i've found that lasting performance and colour adapt are quite good, also hyper smooth, but not that great. leave that for about 5 - 10 mins, then put a corrective concealer to cover blemishes etc. again, wait for it to dry for a bit. now, here comes the wonder product.......benefit's Dr Feelgood. maybe a bit pricey at £22 but it lasts forever. its a matifyer, clear, and covers pores and red marks. it really evens out the skin tone and it works wonders without make up or over it.
right, back to it, gently, dab it over your face, but dont pull it along the skin, otherwise all that hard work has gone out of the window and you found out that youve just rubbed all your foundation off!
then finish with a loose powder.
if you want lasting make up allday, you really have to take the time out to do it.
also, maybe just take a small make up bag around with you with just the essentials in it for quick touch ups throughout the day. maybe grab some free samples so they wont take up that much room in your bag!. clinque is really good. oh, they have a good foundation too, but i cant remember it! email me and i'll get back to you.
i bit of an essay but, i really hope that this helps.

You have to decide what kind of skin type you have first, before choosing a foundation.

On one hand you have visible pores, which suggests oilyness. On the other hand, patchyness suggest dryness - so I am guessing you have good old combination skin!

I have used extremely expensive foundations before, but they do not fulfil their full potential if you do not prime this skin properly.

Firstly try using a scrub followed by a moisture mask (Shu Uemura make good ones) to balance the skin.

Also, if you moisturize before make up, you need to do it a good 15-20 mins before or it will make your foundation slip.

A primer is a great way of making make up last - brands that make primer, I have found, will usually work best with their own brands. If you choose a botanical or mousse based primer, it will not clog your pores - it is the silicone, used in many cheaper brands that will do that.

The best primers I have tried are Shu Uemura mousse DV base, and NARS Botanical primer.

Like I said, they seem to work best with foundations from their own ranges. Depending on how much coverage you need, you should apply primer, foundation then dot concealer on top, then set with powder. (always set with loose powder to make it last longer).

Then I normally finish witha spritz of mineral water, or MAC's Fix + spray to set it.

Then you really are good for the whole day.

Sometimes we need to look beyond the foundation and at the real source of concern, your skin. I would like to look at your diet and water intake first. It sounds to me like you may need a good detox and deep cleanse. Too many different products can cause havoc!

Once your skin has settled down i would reccommend Select Cover by MAC. It is strictly a concealer, but is by far the best cover i have used, and the great thing is it is matched to your exact skin colour (MAC has the biggest range). I suggest you go into your nearest MAC and let them help you. Ask for a sample to try for a few days before you buy.

Good luck

Exfoliate your skin regularly, use a decent moisturiser afterwards, if not a face mask.
Always wear moisturiser under your makeup, but let it sink in for ten mins before you apply makeup.
I'd suggest you go up a bracket in the foundation, you'll get testers from most if not all the mid-range brands. Do this and try before you buy! Armani, Chanel, Shiseido and Sisley are all very good.
Primers work too, but don't use them everyday as they do clog your pores.

I use Smashbox Primer as a base and Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse foundation on top.

The Smashbox primer is quite expensive but well worth it as even if your foundation goes a bit patchy you still have a good base underneath - you can sometimes pick them up brand new and sealed on eBay for a bargain.

Maybe you could try going to a dermatologist first to try and find a product that may help your skin to become less patchy with smaller pores.
Alternatively try a higher price range......clarins, clinique, benefit......they may be pricey, but it could be worth it.......go for a free make over in boots/house of fraser/john lewis. Get them to use a foundation and then you will have your answer if its right for you. Even if it isn't at least you have had a few free makeovers ;-)

Go for a cheap(ish) foundation thats "matt", i had the same problem as you and now i use: "miss sporty so-matte foundation" you can find it in superdrug and there is currently an offer on it for £1.99, normal selling price is around £2.49. By the Way, i would also use a "matt" pressed powder such as "collection 2000" which is also available at superdrug for £1.99 at its original RRP. I use them both, works wonders! hope that helps!
