A fading star known to be sterile and rumoured to be gay "sires" a child (God knows how? Shades of Michael Jackson?) He is a spokesman for Scientology - a cult religion that maintains we all came from outer space, and decreeing that women must be gagged while giving birth, including his wife, so as not to 'disturb' the baby with their cries of pain.
He hides the baby for five months until "the public" believes it doesn't exist. He is fired by his studio for strange behaviour. Then Vanity Fair, a once-respected magazine, gives him their cover and 22 pages.
I don't care about Cruise, but I care about journalism, and to me this is not journalism, but sheer public relations or damage repair. Should a respected magazine do this?

The weird and wonderful world of Tom Cruise. He seems to live in his own fairy land and is totally distanced to 'normal life' even by Hollywood standars. Beautiful child though, lets hope this innocient child can teach him something about life

And what of it?

I have seen such negative garbage on him in the press these last couple of weeks a little postive press is good to see. He is not sterile. He is not gay. The baby was created in a lab but that was in the news a while back. He was fired for the money. he makes mor than Paramount wants to pay. He is having no trouble finding work only commitment. It isn't wrong to want to keep your children out of the lime light. So what if he believes in L Ron Hubbard. John Travolta made a movie for the man and that didn't stop him from making more films. And any body who has ever heard a person screeming for hours on end even a bay would wish they were gagged. It is like going to the dentist and having your teeth drilled. Just because you wish that doesn't mean you act that way. Give the man a break. If he tries to have privacy you sayhe is hiding something. If he tries to give you insight into what he is doing then he is a publicity hound. Make up your mind. He can't be both so which one is he?

Of course it is pure publicity - that is how these people work and Vanity Fair have run with this exclusive because it will boost their sales hugely - everyone will want a copy.

I'm interested in your comment 'known to be sterile' - where is your proof of this? Sounds like another rumour, like the ones of homosexuality. If you care so much about good journalism then you wouldn't make allegations you cannot prove, not even on here. I don't know, or give a stuff, if he is sterile or gay, but either way, you can't prove it, so you shouldn't state it. Just a thought.

sure sure and certain Cruise is too weird and wonderful and Paramount should be applauded for dropping the little d*ck wad with an ego the dimensions of his wallet - conceitedness straightforward should be recommended they don't look hi! and NOONE CARES about their stupid baby....it will be effective to imagine that everybody and that i advise everybody ought to easily provide up being smitten by stupid celebrities A B or Z and provides up gazing the programmes that make and expel extra of those toe rags and provides up determining to purchase patheitc guides that feed and perpetuate the sense that those everybody is priceless even getting a second look....

Its a bit nieve to think Vanity Fair is a respected magazine.

Its whole ethos is build around collusion with celebs to manufacture news and create publicity.

Why people fall for this type of stuff I don't know.

News is news. He is definitely trying to spin out of the bad publicity he's gotten lately. Do you blame him. Vanity Fair is definitely going to do it because it sells magazines. Like it or not it's all about the money.

Absolutely not, I think it's ridiculous. Although I think the sales for Vanity Fair will go up with this issue, I truly suspect a drop in sales every month hereafter.

If you don't like it then don't buy the magazine!! It's as simple as that! I don't know what this has to do with Michael Jackson though unless they are making up stuff about Cruise too!!

No, for a start i think Tom Cruise is a bit of a k*ob, but to have 22 pages based on him is going to far, it would be going to far for any celeb to have that, i mean god that much info must have been a boring read!!!

Yep - the mag wants to make a bit of cash so doing an article that lots of people will want to read and therefore will buy. Good marketing plan.

Best idea is to speak with your wallet and not buy it.
