Trying to decide between:
1. Flip flops
2. Slide sandals (thick strap, 1.5 inch heel)
3. Tennis shoes

Leaning towards the flip flops here!

If it helps any, I'm going right to a university orientation thingy after arrival.

You should wear a nice pair of flip flops, they are comfortable and they might go with the outfit, plus on the flight you will be able to relax your feet.

Your feet are going to expand in flight, so the slides would become uncomfortable. You can adjust the laces on tennis shoes, but if you're really comfortable in flip flops, go for it.

It'll make going through security easier, too.

Tennis shoes, it might be colder in San Fransisco when you arrive, and flip flops look a bit unprofessional, especially if you want to make a good first impression

tennis shoes and flip flops are probably the best. you can always wear tennis shoes and then put a pair of flip flops in your bag just in case you want to change. I would wear Uggs, but that's just me. But it is toooo hot right now!

flip flops for the flight, tennis shoes for orientation if you have an opportunity to change them. if not, then just the flip flops.

wear flip - flops. 1) you wont be asked to remove your shoes, and 2) your feet will be less cramped when you get off the plane. Change into your tennis after you get off , sf is cold somtimes and wet.

I always buy a new pair of warm, fuzzy slippers for long flights, so I can wear any shoes that I want on arrival but still be comfortable on the flight....

hope that helps.

I know I'm a guy, but remember that feet expand at 35,000 feet.

If you wear tennies, then you'll have to loosen and eventually re-tie them while in a crampy airplane seat.

Flip flops you can kick off and slide on.
