Was born and raised in Nashville TN, which is part of the south for those of you who are logistically challenged, and I now live in Northern MI. What can say, I fell in love with a Yankie!!
There very big differences between northern and southern people however I will only list a few due to it being such a long list. First off, obviously the accent and the different words used such as " soda" vs "pop" and the way the vowels are pronounced which gives the southern "drawl". Second, the food in the south is home-made style and usually fried such as chicken fried, fried steak, etc... Third, the general hospitality is MUCH better in the south. They are much more friendly than anywhere else as well. Fourth, contrary to popular belief, we are not racist but believe that each race should stay within their own when it comes to marriage and babies, that's it!! Fifth, chivalry is NOT dead in the south!! Men will open doors and carry heavy items for the women. We say please, thank you, God bless you when you sneeze, address others as mrs., mr., ma'am and sir.
These are just a few of the differences between the north and south. I am not speaking for All southerners or northerners but what has been my experience and what I have seen. To the people who think the southerners only marry within their family...grow up and try to research any information you put out into the web so you don't look like a fool, bless your heart!

I lived in the South for most of my life, lived up north and now in Hawaii. The south is way behind in the terms of how people should be treated according to race. Get over the confederate ****...Asians, Blacks, Hispanics, Jews they don't get respected by most Whites. I know people that believe the heritage not hate but some people have a real problem with black people, if slavery didn't exsist black people wouldn't be her so their ancestors that wanted slaves created a problem for them. I would never raise children in the South.

Ah, there's some leftover feeling from the Civil War. The South feels some comraderie, just because it's "The South," and considers Northerners "Yankees."

Of course, this doesn't affect anyone's day to day life. It's like choosing a team from two that will never play a game, and then forgetting about it.

Just the accent and different terminologies for different things..,ie when I lived in Texas years ago..,a convience store was called an ice house because before they had refrigerators..,they would go to the store to buy block ice for their food.,hence the name ice house. In New England, they refer to a milkshake as a frappe. Not much difference..,north or south they all hurt and bleed the same.
