Hinduism is the word Westerners use for the major faith of India. In India it is called "sanatan dharma", ie "the Eternal Way". It has been around for at least 10,000 years. Its major sacred texts are called the "Vedas". Other important texts are the "Upanishads". Its central teachings are that God ("Brahma") created all that is, that life is guided by a law of cause and effect ("karma"), and that everything is One but appears many because of Cosmic Delusion ("maya").

Christianity is the faith created to sustain and propagate the teachings of the prophet Jesus of Nazareth. Its sacred text is a collection of books called The Bible. It started in Palestine in the 1st century AD and gradually became the major faith of the West. Its central teachings are that the world was created by one God, that Jesus is "the son of God" (one with God, making up a "Trinity" of 'three "persons" in one God' along with a vaguely-described entity called the "Holy Ghost"), and that accepting Jesus as "Lord and saviour" is the gateway for people both to enter Heaven (a happy place) when they die and to lead a good life on earth.

Islam is the faith founded by the Prophet Mohammed in the late 500s AD and has become the major faith of northern Africa and of the Middle East (SW Asia). Its sacred text is a book called the Qu'ran. Its central teachings are surrender (of one's will, desires, etc) to God (the word 'islam' is Arabic for 'surrender'), reliance on the Qu'ran as the holy and directly-dictated Word of God, a duty of pilgrimage to Mecca (a city in Arabia) at least once in a lifetime for all who can, prayer at five set times every day, and giving to the poor.

all OK. add to the list -- Jewish too. since it is as ancient as the other alternatives. they are just thoughts, beliefs, customs, traditions of people who lived different experiences in their lives and believed strongly what they felt, saw, heard and anticipated. It is all OK. we are made different -- we can not think and act the same way -- nothing wrong with that. not to accept "as is" the others is wrong...and we are trying to correct that with tolerance. voila...my share of your question and my answer. enjoy.
