I wanna asked first;did the wood put in a closed container or in room.Did combustion occurs?

Combustion or burning is a complex sequence of chemical reactions between a fuel and an oxidant accompanied by the production of heat or both heat and light in the form of either a glow or flames.

Since not every oxidation process results in the production of heat (for example, corrosion), the term combustion can only be applied to exothermic processes that occur at a rate fast enough to produce heat.

In a complete combustion reaction, a compound reacts with an oxidizing element, and the products are compounds of each element in the fuel with the oxidizing element.

In combustion it needs oxidizing element such as oxygen and halogen groups. In the case of your question only I can say.I think thre was no oxygen presence in the certain area in which oxygen is capable for combustion.Try to imagined that you are in the cave there are times that the flames will off its because of the absence of oxygen in the area since a cave is closed.

Things that can prevent wood from burnig are: Lack of ogyen gas that is if oxygen is prevented from comming into contact with the wood then wood would not burn at all.
Another thing that can prevent are chimical substances such as calcium bicarbanate if smered over wood then the wood would not burn because calcium bicarbonate decomposes to form corbon deoxide which prevents burning.

From a company which is produsing from old newpapers materials for insulating of buildings, I know, that they add boron containing compounds to their newspaper flakes like boric acid .

So if the cellulose and the wood of the newspapers are sucking in boric acid and the purpose of prevention from rapid burning is reached hearby, it probably also works with wood itself.
