I have a good looking 1997 Taurus SHO. But last week it started with a miss fire I think cause the engine starts moving and the car starts jerkingg a little everytime it does it the rpm thing goes down when its iddling but when your going like 45-60 miles per hour the car start jerking too. THis feels like its not getting gas i guess. Well any way I took the car to severl places one place put the big diagnostic machine on it and they said my computer is messed up cause they tried erasing the codes and they kept coming back up. = ( $79 ) Then in another place a mechanic told me it was the spark plugs so I had them changed. = ( $200 ) Then i took it to Autozone and they put the little code machine on it and they told me it was the Egr valve. = ( $49 ) Then i changed it And took it back to Autozone and it still marked the egr valve but now they told me it was going to be the vacum lines or somthing like that. I recalibrated the spark plugs to 0.044. ( 3hrs. ) The engine is till shaking.

Ok autozone is probably throwing you a line as they don't know what it is.... The EGR on Fords use some sort of EGR position sensor (the sensor is either on the EGR, or is in a snesor attached by hoses to the line that connects the EGR to the Exhaust.. known Ford issue.. can cause jerking and such if the sensor is messed up just so )and if the sensor messes up, will set a code for it. Autozone don't sell the sensor and many people have found why unneeded EGRs get replaced there so many times...

Take it to a mechanic shop specializing in drivability or better bet the Ford dealer as it will take a scan tool that can record the jerking and misfire to narrow down the clyinder (while going down the highway (most shops won't have that unless they mess with a lot of engine concerns such as yours... the Ford dealer has it as standard equipement as mandated by Ford already) and what is causing it (as EGR has caused misfire concerns in the past on Fords too but I think you probably have two seperate issues going.. probably a bad coil or plug, and probably a DPFE (haven't worked on a SHO in a while to remember sorry)

You really need to find a competent mechanic. (sometimes easier said than done). I have worked on cars for over 20 years and have NEVER seen a vacuum leak cause this kind of erratic behavior. If the codes will not reset, either the mech. doesn't know what he's doing or you have major computer problems. It may need to be replaced. The computers in vehicles are very reliable but not perfect. From what information you have given it seems that is the case. Before you go that route there are several sensors on this motor that could cause this. crank position, throttle position, mass air flow, etc. EGR would not cause this either. It have also seen coils breaking down cause this. This will get worse the longer the motor runs. (heat makes it worse). If you are not one to work on your own car I would start going to some differnt shops. Some times small shops seem to know more about troubleshooting than the dealerships.

Relax. It sounds tame compared to when I fart, dude. BUILDINGS still shake awhile after one of my plaster-peelers.
