OK, let's see... a definition from the dictionary at answers.com says that rock (pronounced "rÅk") is a <> (I'd prefer to have a true dictionary then). Now, according to my 8Th grade teacher, the idiom "rock & roll" might derive from the fact that a rock, when falling down a cliff, a mountain or something like that keeps rolling and rolling and it reaches a point that is hard to stop it; unless it goes down a precipice or something huge enough definitely stops it. Back in the late fifties rock & roll became so popular among teenagers that almost nothing could stop them from "rock-and-rolling," and nowadays we just say "rock" to define a specific yet broad kind of music... Note: i'm not intended to study ethymologies or something by the way, I'm currently a mecathronics student. ;-)

A rock is a naturally occurring aggregate of minerals and/or mineraloids. Rocks are classified by mineral and chemical composition, by the texture of the constituent particles and by the processes that formed them.
I music Rock means a form of popular music from the late 20th century which typically features a vocal melody (often with vocal harmony) that is supported by accompaniment of electric guitars, a bass guitar, and drums, often with a strong back beat.
Rock and roll emerged as a defined musical style in America in the late 1940's, when it was called R&B.Rocking was a term first used by black gospel singers in the American South to mean something akin to spiritual rapture. By the 1940s, however, the term was used as a double entendre, ostensibly referring to dancing, but with the hidden subtextual meaning of sex; an example of this is Roy Brown's "Good Rocking Tonight." In 1951, Cleveland, Ohio, disc jockey Alan Freed began playing this type of music for a multi-racial audience. Freed is credited with coining the phrase "rock and roll" to describe the rollicking R&B music.

Rock what? Music? Or the sort that you throw at people who annoy you?
If it's the music:
Rock is a form of popular music from the late 20th century which typically features a vocal melody (often with vocal harmony) that is supported by accompaniment of electric guitars, a bass guitar, and drums, often with a strong back beat.
Google it up, it's good exercise for your fingers.
