Will you accept a job that is far from your home, half as interesting as your current job but paying 30% more than your current pay? Besides travelling time, job scope and salary, what else will you look out for? Are American companies generally nice to work in?

The JD of this offer quite boring. Cos the scope is much narrower than my current scope. And it is more operational, less execution and decision making involved.

And i will work in a team and have no subordinates. No one to "delegate" :(

Good points are the boss seem nice. Environment seem good (Partition very high.. :) Company is quite established. The boss said the working hours quite regular. And the culture is open and relax. Lots of freedom.

The main thing I looked for in a job was freedom. You have to like what you're doing for sure. The most important things to me though were to be free of stress and have lots of free time both daily and yearly. Fortunately I lucked out. I found a good paying job with lots of benefits in a small, peaceful Canadian town.

Consider benefits. If a prospective employer offers a 50 to 100% match on a 401K plan that another employer doesn't offer, go for it! You can easily add $2,000 or more to your income with that 401K match so a $24,000 income is really $26,000. If an employer offers the match, give the most you can that they will match up to and that's free money. Does the prospective employer pick up more of the hospitalization coverage cost than another. Think about that also. It's not always hourly income that determines ones salary. With gas prices, it's smart to consider travel time and gas expense. I would rather make $20 a month less if I can save $40 a month in gas. I would rather be driving for 10 minutes of my time than 20 minutes. They say time is money. Another thought is tuition reimbursement. Wouldn't it be great for an employer to send you to school???

It really depends. If the job is something that I really love to do I don't mind taking up this job. Job environment and career advancement are the two most important things that I looked for when I job hopped and whether it is a MNC or GLC that don't really affect my decision in selecting jobs.

American companies hire and fire "quickly". When they want you to meet their business objectives, they are willing to pay you lots of $$$ to get you on board. But, when they do not need you any more, they fire you without giving any reasons at times. So, if you want to work in American companies, do not expect & practise loyalty!

What are you looking for - in this new job? Job advancement? Job Satisfaction? Money cannot buy you happiness at work.

since i am not working yet so i'll answer it as i know...

1st for me is being comfort.. if i feel comfort and enjoy it, it will be 1st priority

2nd is the distance. if it is too far and spending time only in the way to work, it is not good.

3nd is salary.
