David Lee Roth is definitely better I cannot stand Sammy Hagar.

The always legitimately insane man himself, David Lee Roth.
Don't misunderstand me though, I do like Sammy Hagar. But, David Lee Roth was king.

Diamond Dave. Sammy's a great screamer, but his songs are either silly sex metaphors ("Poundcake", "Up for Breakfast", etc) or heavy love songs/prom themes ("Why Can't This Be Love", "Right Now"). Whereas Dave could write beyond that: "Jump", "Jamie's Crying", "Cradle Will Rock". I think it's telling how on Van Halen's 'Best of Both Worlds' comp. the live songs at the end of disc two are sung by Sammy, but written by Dave.
And, to me, Dave provides one of the great moments in rock at the end of "Beautiful Girls".... Mr. Stud gets shot down: "What's your name?... Hey! Where ya goin'?!? Hey!" But does it bother him? No, he just yells out: "I love 'em! I need 'em! Can't live with out 'em... No!" Now how many frontmen are secure enough to put themselves through a situation like that?

Both rocked.
Saw Roth & Hagar perform together 2 years ago in San Bernardino, and it was a great show to watch.

Dave, of course ! Van Halen was neven even close to being as good as with it's original lineup with any of the subsequent singers.
