You are taught. When you are really young and get told "no" you are learning that that behavior is wrong. It's the same for everything else. If no one ever said that something was wrong, then no one would think twice about it. That goes for everything, from racism, to cursing, drugs, etc. Those things were not considered wrong, until someone said that they were and got people to follow them.

Your gut will tell you even if you have never been taught any social skills. Common sense will tell those who have it and listen to it. After making a mistake once you should be able to notice the reaction of others and know if you did right or wrong and then go from there. Also God had Jesus show us the correct way to live. We must love everyone unconditionally and that means doing no harm.If we do harm then we are obviously doing wrong!Parents usually teach or teach by living one way or the other and the kid will learn from them. Teachers get the ones who haven't been taught any social skills and have to teach them right from wrong and the consequences they will have to face. Parents need to do better at teaching their kids now days. They are letting everything slide just to give their kid everything instead of disciplined love.Best wishes!

First do no harm. Think about the consequences of your actions and words. If you hurt something or someone, then its wrong. But if what you do and say benefits another human being or any living thing for that matter, then its probably good. If you still can't figure that one out, I suggest you go see a priest or a rabbi or someone with the authority to tell you what's wrong and what's right. Its too general to discuss it here.

Think a person living alone. It is so easy for him/her ( i will use "he/him/his" hereafter) to select what is right ( i will use just "right" hereafter). If he want to live till his death he will do the things that protects him from dying. For example he will not jump from a high place, he will bring arms wit him in order to not being eaten by the wil animals e.t.c. Here we can say that doing things that doesnt peril your desires (want to live) are right things. So there must be a criteria for an alone person. If he dont suffers losses by doing a thing than it is right for him. The things that reach us to our aims are right things.

Now let's add some society here. In this case everybody will have its own right and wrongs. This time to cause another man's death will be wrong either. Because, for that man his death with his own hands will be wrong and he expect others to respect his right to live. All the men in this society will respect to others desire to live. A right, a common sense will be formed. In this example we can easily say what is right. But the society's complex relations will some times undermine the common sense. The desire to have power and to spin all other men around himself will cause disagreements and with the power of the majority the chief will practise his own opinions and will undermine the common sense. In most societies the process operates like this. The chief gathers the mass and directs the mass against his enemies. In primitive societies there may be a lot of rules that govern the social life, but they are hard to change . Rules take effect with the will of the chief and his men. Sometimes the rules or sanctions can be unbelivable. For example in Pre-Muhammad period the some Arabs were burying alive their little girls. And there wasn't any mechanism to stop this massacre. Because of the nature of tribal relations it was hard to reach on a common sense. In Roman Empire the creditor could take everything of a borrower, get him imprisoned even killed when the debt can't pe paid back. We can see here the money can weighs human life. Throghout the history the power has led the societies to depart from natural common sense and form their own common senses. Thus every society has its own rights and wrongs. But they can be far from universal principles.

When universal principles have been applied the harm can be minimized even be zero. It can be easy for one person to reach them but hard for a community. So in my opinion a common morality is hard to reach by the human.

Right from wrong can be distinguished by the principles. There are accepted principles. The principles directs what is right for a man and for a socity. Most of this principles are of religious origin. Muhammad, Jesus, Moses, Abraham, Buddha, Confucius have put principles. These principles still today governs the person and the societies.

It was also a debate among some Muslim scholars whether philosophers can reach to knowledge of prophets. Because of the limits of the society in which philosphers live, reaching to the knowledge of prophets is impossible. Because the message they give is from out of the humanity.

Religions, especially Islam and Christianity have the vision of twisting wrong in favour of right. If a freedom gives way to wrong, such a freedom should be prevented. For example sex with a 10-11 years old girl can be so attractive for a man like Vladimir Nabukov. In a truly Muslim society such a book will be forbidden, because of directing people to pedophile. The underlying concern
is to protect the childs from a sex experience that can affect her psychology terribly and develop a problematic personality. This is the prevention of the freedom in favour of the right. But most of the rules that are debated are understandable. Terrorism is the worst of the evils. In none of the religions terrorism is accepted. It is killing all of the universe to kill a sole person say Muslims. Principle is clear. Then the wrong is to make terroristic activities on account of political concerns and then saying that it was on behalf of Islam. If the principle is fully practised then confusings fade away.

A good religious knowledge a shining intelligence and a good logic and love of humanity will show what is right and what is wrong.

You can distinguish only from right or wrong if you have the bases.

First you must have clear in your own mind what is right and what is wrong. How this is gauged is a different question. Most interpretations I have seen always put the writers own interpretation. Common consensus's seems the mutually agreeable way, IE its wrong to kill, its good to help the needy

How does what I do affect other people? Does it hurt or offend? Am I pushing my needs over those of others? Is my voice louder?
These things may be wrong.
Right things are helping those in need, feeding the hungry, clothing those who are in rags. When I see Christ in those I care for, I do right.

There is no right or wrong. It's just that, the wrong started into knowing when someone knew he's harmed. And then, the right came in after...

Well, everyone has their own ideas of what is wrong and what is right. You just have to listen to yourself and how you feel about something. If it doesn't sit right with you then it's most likely in your eyes wrong.
