just a small thing. Remember that your presence is already a sign that you care. Babies often have too many toys and the like. But can never have enough cute clothes, I mean even simple clothes for everyday, underwear, you name it. Buy simple and cheap and that will work.

Also if the host is a person with some common sense, she will obviously have a feel for how much you can spend, given your means, and given that you are not very close. So if she did show any disappointment at your not bringing a huge, expensive gift, she'd be the one behaving improperly - not you.

Alternatives? You could try to find out about a common gift, and be part of that.

Enjoy

There's no limit of what to spend. The best thing to get is stuff that new mothers use a ton of! Such as newborn diapers, baby wash, baby wipes, diaper rash cream, bottles, wash cloths (the soft baby kind), breast pads, underwear liners (we bleed for 6 weeks and cant use tampons), tylenol, etc. The best thing I got while I was pregnant was a gift basket for myself, when people go to showers they only pick up things for the baby and never the mother herself.

Night masks that go over our eyes, bubble bath, lotions, journals, slippers, etc are great ideas for a expectant/new mother.

I would say it is whatever you can afford .. also if you do not know this person that well I would just put toghter something small..

One Idea is to get a small diaper bag and fill it with things from the dollar store.. (baby brush. wash clothes, wipes ..)

Another idea is to get in contact with someone else going to the shower you may know and see if they would like to go in on a gift with you .. It would save you both some money ....

well if you knit, the cost of the wool.

i don't think you have to spend much. after all it is for the baby (the gift) not for her.

I've never been to one and if i did it would be for a close friend or family, but i know you don't like to come off rude, so maybe some wee booties? or a nice cute poster for the baby's room?

Probably $15 at the most. Buy a cute outfit or some bath stuff. The best thing though is to look at their registry(if they have one) that way you know its something they need.

I would spend $15- $20. You could find a few nice things on sale or clearance. I would go to Target or Macy*s.

Go to Ross and get a few inexpensive gifts. Receiving blankets or gift sets. No one will need to know the cost..take off the price tags. They will never know.

Depends, just some small things if it's someone you don't know well, or something like diapers and wipes. $20, tops.
