Seemed like it took about a year for movies to make it on DVD, now it seems like they go from the show, to the shelves!

Tell me about it! I was in a movie in May. It got a limited run in the theaters, now it's already going to be out on DVD next month.

Seems like yesterday I was being killed by a vampire in a dark alley.

Movies on DVD come out at much quicker rate these days because companies now have the technology to do it. Recent technological developments over the past few years such as CD burners and digital video equipment have also become very cheap to use. Also, the companies want to earn as much money as they possibly can in as little time as possible. Studios want to also be able to deter piraters from recording and selling their media.

I read an article about it and the biggest reason is down to piracy, there is even a suggestion that future films may come out almost immediately after a theatrical release which i personallythink is wrong as it would inevitably mean the end of cinema

You're right. I don't know about DVD, but before DVD, movies took forever (compared to now) to come out on videocassette. It's all about the money. ALL ABOUT THE MONEY!

It's done to try and cut down on pirate versions getting release before the studio ones....it's their financial benefit not our pleasure at being able to see new releases quicker, when you are not in a position to go to the cinema.
