I hate when children show no respect for their parents or elders. It really pisses me off. How can a child have authority over their parents or are parents just too afraid their child may hate them or something? What are your thoughts?

Because people are too afraid now to turn around and spank their kids. My daughter will not listen to my wife, tells her no and yells at her, but i walk in and shes an angel. I think this is because she knows that her butt will get spanked if she even tries to tell me no, but my wifes afraid to make her cry. And to those who say send them somewhere or to someone... why??? isnt it your responsibility as a parent to teach your children whats right and wrong??? She may not like me, but shell know whats right and wrong. Of course cussing wont get your point across, and the military taught me to point with the full hand, all fingers extended... then there wont be any pointing back at me confusing the situation.

If a child has no respect for their elders then I have to say it's due to the parents. Parents now of days do not correct children the way they should ( and I don't mean beat them either ) People have just made their life so busy these days that they don't take the time to sit and talk to the child and make them understand that it's the parent who is in charge not the child. If a child learns early on that they can get away with stuff he/she will continue to do it without fear of punishment. Plus the law does not help either since now you can be arrested for spanking your child but I tell you the truth they need to be spanked I never died from it and turned out pretty well. I think parents need to just slow down a bit and spend more time with their children then alot of the things going on today with kids would not be such a big problem but that is just my thoughts..

You got it. Parents don't have the confidence in themselves sometimes to set limits. What they don't know is it really hurts the child. The child will have less respect for their parent. I cannot stand to this either. Too much power for a child! The really sad case is when a child is allowed to "run" the show but it is because the parent just doesn't want to be bothered. That is just sad. The parents are the problem in both of these cases.

Children have to be taught respect, just as they have to be taught everything else!! Parents have to model the right kind of behavior, which doesn't always happen!! All this demise in young peoples attitudes started when teachers were no longer given any authority to spank, or disipline children in school!! Then, when there are cases of CPS being called to homes every day, some parents have been discouraged with their roles as the ones to disipline their children!! Who do they think is going to do it??? I personally have always thought that before two people have children, they should have to pass a I.Q. test!! That would controll the population, for sure!! (LOL)!!

It is said that familiarity breeds contempt.
These days the old big family structure has crumbled, and there are nuclear families, with one papa, one mama, and one or two babies, they all spent most of their free time together, that's why the childrean are a part of the daily routine of their parents, and don't respect them as they used to in the old days. In older days, there was a big family, there were many kids, aunts, grannies, and parents usually maintained a certain distance and gravity from their kids...that made the kid think twice before uttering a word before the father.

I hate it too, unfortunately kids have learned at an early age how to play the Police card. You can't imagine how many stories I've heard from friends & relatives about kids calling the Police or Family Services on their parents for whatever false reason they can come up with. Most times though kids learn from their parents, we just don't always see it.

children act like spoiled brats if their parents don't get what they want or their parents Always get what they want...the parents should teach their children that they can't get everything they want by the time their child/ren are 3 to 5 because that's when they learn to get plenty of toys to play with...

i hate the fact that they take authority over their own parents, it's either they learned that from the other kids in school or the parents LET them take over...punishing them makes them more angry and upset...if the child tries to hurt her/his parents, they should TALK not shout or scream to them...

to parents in these situations,
tell your children, if you get hurt because of not giving them a toy, you might be gone earlier because kids use lighters, bats and other things if they get MAD at you...which i saw on Dr. Phil....teach your children that getting everything is wrong for anyone because they'll grow up and say "These toys were stupid when I played with them, I cant believe i even played with them in the first place..." or something like that...they're gonna stop playing with them anyway...

teach you kids that EVERYTHING cant be bought, being selfish is wrong and sinful and getting mad is bad...

Or maybe the kids just have one parent and show no care for the other. If the parents don't teach the kids to respect elders, then the kids become these assholes..

Sometimes it goes back on the way the child was brought up and sometimes the parents may be too linient towards the child, punishment never killed anyone
