Modem is Sagem supplied by ISP -Tiscali. Have followed instructions by Sagem, Tiscali and Windows Help. No joy. VERY frustrating. Modem is at end of long phone extension (about 50ft) but is connected to that with correct (suplied) modem cable. Two other phones on line before line reaches extension not affected by problem but disconnects modem if either is used. Phone on extension WITH modem - correctly filtered - is fine and useable without affecting connection, Any suggestions gratefully received.
(Have bought self powered USB Hub for sole use of modem - no joy.)

I knew it ..I knew it!!!..when I saw this question I thought I wonder if it's a sagem modem...I clicked on th question & saw it was !...but there is more !You are with Tiscali!...What a coincidence!...how have you been doing with them?...it's a wonder you have a hair left on your head.
I had the exact same thing..I was on 2 MB broadband...I told Tiscali it was the modem..Tiscali sad noooooo...I said it was!...Tiscali said nooooo...Eventually they agreed to send me another modem but it was still Sagem...The problem still continued...hold on there is more!
They said they would send a BT engineer down to my house (all was fine at the Exchange).
In the meantime ...I changed the modem to a fujitsu modem which I borrowed & was told was a much superior modem... Wonders will never cease!! ..everything worked great! ...problem solved!
Then the engineer arrived..told me problem was a weak broadband signal, 2MB was rather too much for the line, so reduce it from 2MB to 1MB...I said but it's working great..he said yes ok, well see how it goes.
One month later..still all was working great but suddenly Tiscali decided to drop my broadband to 1MB..I said why???..Its been working fine for over a month..they said BT told them to..I said but I am paying for 2MB, I want 2MB, I have got 2MB ..its working with 2 MB, why change it?...What a nightmare!...Finally I got them to give me 2 MB back & for months now I have no problems.
Look out for a fujitsu external USB modem 2nd hand (say on ebay) ...model FDX310...cost about £9
I have one spare I can let you have if you want.
The reason for it is that sagem are rubbish at holding onto a weakish signal (just like some makes of freeview boxes are better than others in this respect)..Fujitsu are renowned for being excellent for holding onto a signal
PS I sympathise with you..I bet you need a holiday after dealing with Tiscali!

hmm... well, a new modem isn't going to do anything, there is a problem in the way the connections are interfearing with each other. Just think of the way the date is running, source to where to where to where and see if there is a glitch somewhere or if 2 ports are attempting to use the same source at the same time. One thing you could do is single it out by unplugging everything else other than your computer attached to the modem or phone line. that's all i can think of... sorry.

Do you have DSL filters on all of your telephones? Remember that you should filter all phones that are connected to any phone jack, but leave the actual dsl connection unfiltered.

Your firmware on your modem may need an update, check with the hardware manufacturer's website http://www.sagem.com/support/site/sagem_carte.php

Go to Pcpitstop as recommended here on y/a. They do a full diagnostics free. Will probably pinpoint the problem and go some way to solving it.I was so impressed I signed up to them for a year. Well worth it, about 20 pounds for peace of mind foe a year. My pc had slowed right down and is now back up to speed.

Check your telephone line and then check with Tiscali for any local problems with the supplier.
