you have to do 2 things, first of all the reason why your virus software did not detect it was because its probably spyware or a trojan. Deleting it manually isn't going to work because it has probably affected your registry and is spreading as we speak
do this...
go to downloads.com and download adaware, run a full scan and it will find something, quarantine it. Only problem is this is that it might not get rid of it if its really bad, if its not really bad it will completely heal your computer, if its really bad it will at least keep it functioning and running as long as you run it every time you turn on your computer

if thats not enough your going to have to actually pay for or try to download a anti spyware software Spy Doctor is really good, thats what i use.

hope this helped, ad-aware is the best free program out there, good luck.

PS. don't panic, worst thing that can happen is make your hard drive unusable... if you have a go back feature you could always use it if it gets too bad, if you don't upload much needed files online or burn them to a disk just in case. Hard drive is easy to replace it will run you about 50 bucs though, cheaper to get the anti spyware software

reformatting your PC should be a last resort, as easy as it sounds there is a lot of baggage that comes with it, from knowing how to do it to knowing how to get everything you want back on there, including an OS.

Do a manual update first. Sometimes even though it says it updates it doesn't do it properly. Make sure you don't have any other virus programs running they can cancel out some of the programming from each other. If you know what virus it is try typing it in your search engine and it may direct you to a program that will help. Sorry that's all I can think of. I would back up anything you don't want to lose just in case though.

Scan your computer again and copy the name of the virus down, then search google on how to specifically delete that virus. It has always worked for me.

Write down the name of the file containing the virus, then delete it manually. (You can find it with the search function once you have the name.)

Do a system restore. Just restore it to yesterday or somewhere near there.
