First of all, I don't know what the verse quoted in Mark has to do with this. And the quote "God helps those that help themselves" is not in the Bible.
Secondly, if God blesses a person with wise judgement in finances and that person uses it in a right way there is nothing wrong with it. JCPenney was a very wealthy man. He had billions of dollars yet he only kept 10% for himself the rest he gave and yet he was still a very wealthy man. He was happy.
However, Rockerfeller on his death bed was quite rich yet was still trying to make one more deal which he never finished when he could have been saying his farewells to family was greedy. He told a reporter towards the end that he just wanted one more dollar. He was not happy.
I believe, if it doesn't effect you in a greedy or prideful way and you do the will of God then it is fine.

He heartly approves of it except on the Sabbath.
"Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the LORD your God has commanded you. Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
Since the stock markets are not open on Sunday, there is no problem. Actually, there may be a minor problem. The markets are not open on Saturday either, but God commanded that we should work six days a week. It might be a sin not being able to trade stocks on Saturday.

The usual take is gambling is wrong because one is trying to get something for nothing. With my results on the market, there is no chance of getting something for nothing. On the other hand, if you want the stock options and salaries of the big CEO's, then you move into obscenity.

God prefers agriculture stocks (garden of eden), chemicals (fertiliser for garden of eden), transportation stocks (assists with exodus), medical stocks (medical miracles) and defence stocks (ammunition for fire and brimstone). He's also into the entertainment industry (special effects).
So if you trade them God will be happy!

Jesus had some things to say about investment. He was one of the leading investment gurus of his time. Read the Bible!:
And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods. And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward. Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord taketh away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed. I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses. So he called every one of his lord's debtors unto him, and said unto the first, How much owest thou unto my lord? And he said, An hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and sit down quickly, and write fifty. Then said he to another, And how much owest thou? And he said, An hundred measures of wheat. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and write fourscore. And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light. And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations. (Luke 16.1-9)
