I found an antique at a thrift store. I brought it home and thought nothing of it. A few weeks later my husband and I (even my cats, I could see their nostrils flare ) started to smell the scent of smoke, sewage and herbs strongly in certain areas of our home at any given place and time. For over a month I would fly off my chair and run to the kitchen to check the burners on the stove. Or nose around our home searching for the scent. One day I came across the antique on my bookshelf(I had forgot about it). I joked out loud and decided to put it outside on my porch just in case. We haven't smelled anything since. Coincidence?

I'm really not sure what the object is. I was simply attracted to the old look of it. It's some kind of metal it is now a turq color with some rust like stains. The shape is similar to a cup but with a wider oval base and oval top. It has tassels etched on the outter side.

well, it sounds like straight out of a fiction book. it might just well be coincedence. the only way to make sure is to keep that antique of yours in a seclusive place by itself and see if there is any smell. if there is then may be you could even sell it in a higer price to Ripley's believe it or not or some other bidders. lol

It must be something in your house which set it off. Probley the sir conditioning ot heater. You didn't say what it was, furniture, vase, cloth, wood ect. cermic or plastic.
Could be the material used in the item to color it or something died in it, and the heat/air condit. brought changes out in it.
