It would be neat, but thing is, when you think about it, does it really hold meaning? I could see maybe someone who is really interested and loves astronomy and all that good stuff. But it seems like just another way of making money. Like the buy parts of the pacific ocean and it is all yours. Really, what are you going to do with it? You have a piece of paper that says you "own" the star. Now, star in a jar, oh my, you better believe I would buy that.

Whatever you do, don't be fooled by one of those companies that charge money to have a star named after you (..or anyone else). The ONLY organization that can officially name a star is the International Astronomical Union (IAU). If you want your name on some star, just go outside, pick one and its yours :)

This should not be hard. There are more stars in the milky way galaxy than there are humans on earth. Hell, go ahead and name 5 or 6 stars after yourself. Contact the International Astronomical Union. Then when you are done you can begin to name galaxies, quasars, and globular clusters after yourself too.

Not really, because so few people even look at the stars so that almost no one would ever look at my star (most of the bright stars are already named) or even know the name of it.

No I want the space ship which takes me to the star named after me:).
well we can name it after you too.
actually I like the idea of stars named after women. It's very romantic, and sounds better than guy names or old Greek/roman names.
