Very often, when a homeless person asks for spare change/food or whatever, a lot of people will think,

"Why don't you go get a job, and work for your money just like I do?"

Well, uhh, I doubt their resumes are exceptionally impressive, and there's a good chance they can't even read, write or count.

So my question is, what kind of job can a homeless person apply for? How do they improve their lives? Are we right to judge them?

The fact is that there's a number of homeless people who have jobs, the jobs just don't give them enough money to get housing (this is especially true if they also have to pay for medicine or healthcare of someting).
And it's a wrong idea to think that homeless people can't read, write or count. Yeah, there are some that don't have education, or might have mental problems or something, but most are just people, and had normal jobs and normal lives before they either had bad luck or bad choices that landed them on the street.
There's also jobs that are designed specifically for homeless people--they're a part of a program that helps homeless people get off of the street.

Oh, and just an FYI, since we're on the subject of homeless people. If a homeless person is hungry in a big city, it's because they're dumb. There's enough shelters and such (especially in big cities) that they can get three squares a day. If you give them money, there's a decent risk that they'll just spend it on their addiction (that's not to say all homeless people are addicted to something, but there is a decent risk). What I recommend is having a 5$ gift card for Mcdonald's or something in your wallet, and then if you see a homeless person you want to give someting to, you've got that, and you know they'll spend it on food (and a meal at even Mcdonald's is a nice change from a shelter). If you're going to do that, don't just hand it to them and walk away. Stop, introduce yourself, ask their name, and shake their hand. For somebody to treat them like they're human--especially for somebody to touch them--can be a big deal for somebody who's used to everyone passing them by, avoiding eye contact. I'd say that even if you don't have a gift card, just a couple bucks, it's worth the risk that they'll spend it on their addiction if that couple bucks gives you the opportunity to shake their hand and treat them like they're human.

Oh, and if you've got some time to kill (and maybe a buddy for safety, especially if you're female), offer to share lunch with a homeless person and hear their story. They often have amazing stories, and they're usually so happy to be able to share them that they'll do most of the talking and you can just listen. Your sharing a meal with them and hearing their story can be a very big deal to them, and might be an awesome experience for you too.

No, I don't judge them. I think everyone is only so many steps from being there themselves. They are not all mentally ill, they are not all illiterate, they are not all lazy. They are just people without a home and often without a job. Everyone keeps talking about their resumes, well if you have no phone, no address, just how is a resume going to help you? When you apply for a job they have to be able to contact you to hire you. You can't even apply for government assistance without an address. There are families that are homeless, they had financial problems and nobody to turn to. They end up living in a car with no where to go, then without an address or phone they can't obtain any assistance or jobs. No it is not right to judge them, sit down and take a look at how close you are to being homeless or how close you would be if you had nobody to turn to.

Allot of homeless people are in need of mental health access. They have conditions for which they should be taking medication daily but can't afford it or had it at one time but couldn't afford to continue getting it. Once their condition is stabilized and their back on their medications they do just fine in holding down jobs etc.
Others had homes and families but something happened in their lives, illness or divorce etc. that they got into drug addictions or alcohol abuse and need help with that. Others lost jobs because of some other problem and therefor lost homes and are trying to support their family while the entire family is forced to stay in a shelter or live in their car if they are lucky enough to have one. Most homeless people are in need of help and lots of it. Once they are given a leg up they do just fine. It's just getting them to the place where they can support themselves that takes a bit of assistance!

I think they all suffer from mental disorders and as a result are unable to keep up with society's demands, and become homeless.
they need mental health services and occupational therapy.
giving them money will not improve their situation... it will just make you have less money. but it causes the problem to continue, without affecting the government.
if you don't give them money, they will get food from a mission or homeless shelter.
they are habitually begging. if you don't give them money, it will break their habit.
and if we make the government intervene, because we stop footing the bill, then maybe the homeless will get some real help.

We don't have any right to judge them. If we wanna do so, we first should have the guts to help them to find a suitable job. Even before that offer any help you can. If they had a good job like all of the rest, they wouldn't be begging at the first place. We need to stand up, understand their problems and help them in whatever little way we can.

I do not judge homeless people they are people too, For a homeless person to progress they may need to seek help from an organization like a church because they will need clothes to go looking for a job and help with resumes. their are organizations who will help you get an apartment.

There are always jobs available - even for bums. It's still possible to do a lot of tasks that don't require a resume or literacy skills such as landscaping and hard labor. Bums have simply given up and are willing to settle for what society will give them for free.

No we are not right to judge them, but shamelessly we do like we judge everything else. There is a quote I like it says "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle."I believe many of us can help them out,it is do we want to take the time and effort?Or are we to busy with ourselves? We never really take the time to think about others and their situation. It would be nice if we did step back at least for a minute and think about it.

it is a superb poem! i attempt to by no skill decide human beings, for I by no skill be attentive to what sort Our Lord might p.c.. to pass to me it in the present day. He could be that pungent stranger with out teeth begging by making use of the shop, those the others stare at and spit upon that basically desires a cup of coffee and a few thing to consume. I feed him, and get clean socks. I by no skill say something some persons scent, they could be ill and it must be out of their administration. My son has a handicap and human beings many times factor and stare, some have been many times impolite and might snigger and say issues like oh my gosh what's incorrect with it? i might say, "this is a splash boy with Trisomy 21 and a coronary heart circumstances and PPH. what's your concern, i'll invite the Lord to bless you." and walk away. My chum had a son born with a double bi-lateral cleft plate and that became into even worse the way human beings stared whilst he became right into a splash one, nevertheless so in specific cases, yet he's great approximately it! the forged e book says decide no longer lest ye be judged additionally. I in specific cases think of we are the main severe upon ourselves. BTW: who did write it?

People are homeless, wandering the streets, camping by the highway, collecting cans, begging at intersections, because they're mentally ill and because they have addictions and want to be left alone to pursue them.

I think every society ought to simply accept these people, give them food and shelter, and even beer or drugs if they want. A few of them around every town aren't going to collapse the system, and if they get their fix, and are properly housed, they aren't a danger to anyone but themselves.

Instead they sleep in the ******* graveyard in my city.
