Every election they b*tch and complain about the policies...but when you ask them ...no, they never voted. I worked in a federal voting poll last election in a primarily gay area...and I was shocked by how few gay people came into vote...and yet I hear them b*tch all the time...How can you feel you have the right to complain if you haven't even voted..I'm a Canadian..but I betcha it's the same in the US.

I too am a Canadian and I was appalled at the attitude and lack of interest in the last election of the GLBT community. Some of the answers above are typical of the individuals who stood back instead of trying to prevent the current homophobic bigot from becoming PM. I sure hope they change their actions and juvenile outlook in the next election, as the worst scenario I can fathom is a conservative majority.

It's very similar as far as younger generation of gays/lesbians here in the states. I think more of those of our generation actually do take an active interest in politics to some degree, but certainly not enough.
I think a lot of elections could have had different/better outcomes if more of our community had actually stood up and acted upon their right to vote.
I don't know exactly why, I can only assume that they don't because they think it's a forgone conclussion and that their vote doesn't really count.
The way our voting system is set up, in many areas it's actually true. An individual vote doesn't really count.
We saw this in action in 2000 when Bush stole the election because he won the Electoral College votes, but not the popular vote.

Same as everyone else. I vote incidentally, all the time, love to vote. Let's just hope the apathy extends to both sides (which it doesn't sorry to say).

'cause we know that the person who supports gay rights won't get elected or if he/she does, he/she will do an about face later. We feel like it's beating our head into the wall.

It's kinda like that episode of South Park:

When your choice is either a Giant Douche or a Turd Sandwich... why bother?
