the fact that any buttons work is a good one - you haven't fried the CPU yet. Get the battery out IMMEDIATELY....
Any substance like beer or pop etc will leave - worse than water - a trace of chemicals, and the chemicals will short things out almost forever....
You just have to dissassemble the phone. carefuly. Usually you will need a tiny torx or a philips. GENTLY separate the parts, and if they are glued with drying goo from the liquid drink ( you dont state what it was - some have lots of sugar, some have mix etc. ) then you have to soak the glued parts in water to loosen them...
If everything comes apart without ripping sheets of delicate plastic, then you are ok. you have to wash the button pads with water and soap, and dry them after rinsing with hot water. Again, use a hair dryer.
The goo left behind from the spilled drink is shorting out the traces and buttons. Until the goo is removed, the circuit boards
are screwed up. Remove all power until the boards are cleaned.
Once everything is cleaned and dried, then, since you stated that some buttons do something, all the functions have a good probablilty of returning - if the display was black or dead or whatever - then you would have toasted it, but you state that some buttons work... ( you can't have even one button work if the
CPU is dead ! )
take the unit apart very carefully - stick each screw on a piece of paper with scotch tape as you take it out and mark on the paper where it came from - use a picture if necessary.
take your time.
good luck

Hate to say it, sounds like you might need a new phone... Did you get insurance on it??? If you did, you can replace it for like $50, I never got insurance on any of my old phones, but learned my lesson after last time... BTW, even if you dont have insuranse, you can usually add it anytime, just dont report it right away so you dont look suspicious... That depends on how long you can go w/o the phone though...
Anyway same thing happened to me w/ my old phone... I actually spilled laundry detergent on it... After letting it dry out for a few days, it started working sporadically again, and eventually got better... Never quite got that 9 key to work though. would have to push it just right. Anyway was never perfect but it did work... Eventually crushed it in the trunk of my car when slamming it down on the lock...
Now my new phone, I dropped the other day in a puddle (yeah, i dont have a very good history of phones), and I took out the battery dried it as best I could, and let it air dry more for 2 days... I just tried it out and its working perfect... But it was only water this time, lol...
Anyway, only time could tell, but if its still that messed up after 4 days i think its time to start looking for a replacemtn

The best thing to do when you wet your phone (I've dropped mine into a foot spa full of water) is to take out the battery and let the phone dry out. DO NOT try to turn it on until it is dried out. If it was a spill, a hair dryer may do the trick. In my case, I left it in front of the fan and it took a couple days to dry out.
