Should they leave the classics alone? Are some better than others?
Is there a better remake, then the original in your personal opinion?

I like remakes, because for the most part, I've never seen the originals. This is because I can't watch movies more than 10-15 yrs old. Why? Special effects from just 5 years ago same lame these days. Also, jokes from the 80's and 90's aren't as funny now as they were then. Society changes too much.

Remakes almost *always* suck compared to the originals. Part of the problem is that movies usually need to be pretty good to begin with, otherwise there's no incentive to re-make them. If they flopped at the box office the first time around, chances are there isn't enough of an audience to justify spending money re-doing it.

While there have been a few good ones (like the Bourne Identity, the Italian Job and Oceans Eleven) , the ratio of hits to misses is just sad.

Some recent remakes:

Around the world in 80 days = weak
Texas Chainsaw Massacre = awful
Fat Albert = ugh
Freaky Friday = mediocre
Rollerball = ugh
Walking Tall = crawl under rock
Poseidon = ugh
Dukes of Hazzard = ugh
King Kong = nice effects, boring movie
The Longest Yard = ugh
Bad News Bears = bad
Stepford Wives = ugh
Shaft = ugh
The Hills have Eyes = close yours
The Amityville Horror = horrible
13 Ghosts = awful
Planet of the Apes = inhumane
Bewitched = ugh
Psycho = why???
Down to Earth (remake of Heaven can wait) = ugh
Point of No Return (remake of La Femme Nikita) = weak

All of these movies were markedly inferior to the original versions upon which they were based.

I don't consider "Batman Begins" a remake, it was a completely different take on the character (and very well done)

I guess those kinds of movies work a lot better than verbatim retelling of the same story.

Originals, for sure. Can you imagine a remake of Gone With the Wind, with Lindsay Lohan and Ben Affleck? *shudder* I have to admit, however, that I really enjoyed The Omen remake - thought it was scarier than the original, and I liked the Psycho remake. (I'm SURE I'll get flack for that....) The thing is, there are many movies that were perfect the first time around, so why remake them? I saw the Psycho remake as more of an homage to Hitchcock than a typical remake. But try to envision any classic movie with any of today's actors.... How about My Fair Lady with Tom Cruise and Mary Kate Oleson? Or maybe An Affair to Remember with Ashton Kutcher and Drew Barrymore? Ugh, I can't go on, I might throw up...

The Trouble is So many remakes are such a waste of time!

How could the crap remake of "Roller Ball" Occur?
What Brain Dump is responsible for "The Texas chainsaw Massacre" remake? (the first is the freakiest).

I wish they'd just remake Crap films. You know, like "children shouldn't play with dead things", "Let's do it again" and/or "Hot Dog; The Movie".

some video clips will be remade yet some shouldn't. i respect, love, LOVE Willy Wonka and the Chocolate production facility yet can not stand Charlie and the Chocolate production facility even although i like Johnny Depp. The action picture became creepy and unusual and that i imagine Tim Burton ruined it. although, there are others that ought to nicely be extra appropriate than the unique, although those are a techniques and few (Batman vs Batman starts off). I actually wish Hollywood would provide up remakes although. I bypass over originality. maximum video clips at the moment were carried out already in a unmarried way structure or kind. and that i pressure 'maximum'. no longer all video clips released at the moment are carbon copies, yet maximum are.

The originals are my favorites but often, the special effects in the remakes are cool too

re-makes in some cases b/c they just take a classic and add modern effects which some times make the movie a hell of a lot better vs the classics that just have old special effects but some classics are way better b/c the actors were so much more into it instead of some of the over paid actors we have today that just plain old suck

Originals -- the remakes are usually very bad and NOT worth me spending money on. (Plus, the newer actors do NOT have talent!)
