Would you rather be 'poor' in the US, or in Afghanistan?

...that's what I thought.

All organizations do at least some good, and at least some evil. The Nazis, for example, had some extremely humane animal cruelty laws, while perpetrating mass genocide.

If Hezbollah does such a great job with the poor, how come the poor are still there? Just because they open a food kitchen doesn't mean they are actually making an impact, any more than all the soup kitchens in the West are.

I don't care how many cots they give the homeless, supporting suicide bombers are evil.

If the Hezbollah are so good at assisting the homeless, poor and sick in the Islamic nations, then why are there homeless and poor (every culture has sick) in the Islamic nations?

The fewer the number of people calling the shots in the country, the more likely it is to be a poor country. Our Constitution is an insurance policy against dictatorial rule. It defines the basic rights of the citizens and then distributes governmental decision-making authority across three branches of federal government and the states in order to protect those rights and freedom. Even our economic system is based on the freedom. We freely trade with eachother. We trade because both sides of the trade views what he gets in the trade as having more value than what he gives up. That's how wealth is created - by adding value. Why do you buy groceries? Because it sure beats the heck out of growing all that food yourself. Having a ready source of a wide variety of calories is valuable because it enables you to spend your time on things other than gathering calories - things like wondering what differentiates poor and rich countries. Under dictators people have little power, freedom or incentive to produce anything of value because the dictator can come along and take it away whenever they feel like it. What little freedom people do have exists only because the dictator can't keep tabs on everybody all the time due to logistics. But, if he hears that you have something valuable like a beautiful daughter, a strong son, a fertile piece of cropland, the ability to organize other people, weapons, a vein of gold on your land or diamonds, or oil - then it won't be your's very long.

Hezbollah shouldn't be helping the destitute in their country if other Islamic nations are willing to share their wealth of natural resources, like oil, with the poor. If only they have a honest and responsible government.

Hezbollah or similar organisations are helping the poor so that their terrorism can find a safe place to work on. Examples are Lebanon, Afghanistan, Pakistan and there are many more.

Why can't the Islamic world divert the fund they are using to support terrorism to eradicate poverty? If you are caring for the poor - do that an prove your good will.

Where do Hezbollah and other organizations like them get the money to help the poor? Oh, yeah they get it from oil purchased by Western nations. Hezbollah so loves poor people that they fire missiles from their back yards. They know that the people at whom they fire the missiles will shoot back, and OOPS! More dead & wounded poor people for Hezbollah to help!

Because in the West you have have so many opportunities and chances in life that if you end up poor and destitute it's usually your own fault - and the rest of us know it.

We have less sympathy for freeloaders basically.

And Hezbollah might want to start firing less terrorist missiles and dishing out some more soup to the hungry if they want my admiration.

Perhaps it's easier to find people who are willing to die for you if you are willing to help feed and clothe them in their time of need.

It's more than likely a much more necessary thing in those countries.

In America we have so much money it's ridiculous. To quote Mumia: "what passes for the middle class, would pass for the upper class in other countries. It is this wealth that makes them insecure".

There may be homeless/poor/etc. in America, but we are a capitalist country. It's propagated from the very beginning that homeless people are people who did not go for their dream. We are a greedy country. Yet, there are very beautiful things we have. Freedom. The fact that you can own your own business/property/etc.

Of course, these are all pretty much lies. Even if I've made all the payments on my house/car I still have to pay taxes to live in the state, county, and sometimes even the city

I think the motivation would be that: they want to take care of the peoples basic needs so they can easily instruct/force them to follow their agenda.

Where as america encourages people to take care of their OWN needs so they can follow their own agenda. Of course, people are so self-involved it makes it pretty easy for those who feel like running the country into the ground.

I don't blame the politicians. I don't blame the governement. I blame the people.
