Why are white people more likely to commit suicide than any other race?

People who commit suicide are in most cases mentally ill. They have serious depression or other mental illnesses. I don't know why suicides are more common among white Americans than others but maybe they are more vulnerable to becoming depressed or less likely to seek help in time. There's probably a lot of contributing factors. Stress may be one of them. Other races may deal with stress in a different way for example.

The world is the White Man's Oyster? I grew up in an extremely poor family in NORTH CAROLINA. I dropped out of High School because, I couldn't afford to go anymore (this was public school) and, worked in a cotton mill, construction and, similar jobs until, I joined the ARMY. You have been misled. most white people are, poor or, middle class. I never even met a rich white person.A rich white person is, just as out of reach for Me as, a rich black person. You seem to look at a lot of corporate C.E.O's and, say to Yourself, all white people, are rich. well, I hate to interrupt Your self pity but, it just ain't so. as for the suicide rates, it is probably young white kids who, are also looking at these C.E.O's and, saying, that.s supposed to be Me. what did I do wrong? society has burned an image into our minds of, the "typical" rich white person when in reality, this model never really existed.

As much as white society is glamorized, they live with a lot of dissatisfaction in their lives that they are unable do deal with and instead of trying to find solutions they find fault within themselves that drives them to the selfish act of suicide. As an example, a young white girl in my community committed suicide because she felt she had let her family down by not making the varsity cheerleading squad and this made her feel rejected by her peers.

White people have played God for centuries. White people have always been taught that they are the greatest and best. They have always been the perfect race in all of their beauty, grace, and style. White people have always come out on top. White people proudly acknowledge themselves as the privileged race who gets all of the glory, honor, and praise in the eyes of society. They are America's favorite bully when it comes to being prejudiced, bigoted, and racist. White people control all of the wealth in the world and laugh while the rest of us have to eat the crumbs from the table. White people are the most attractive(at least in their own eyesight). White people are the most intelligent and wise creatures to have ever dawned the earth. White people deny that because of all of the above reasons that they are the most narcissistic, confident, and conceited people in the world, but they are. So when you are "God", how in the time of trouble, when you realize within yourself that you are finite, human, full of mistakes that you wish you never made, when you are depressed, lonely, hurt, angry, and yes embarrassed, humiliated, mocked, and full of self-hatred, and discussed; how can you turn to God if you are "God"? To a white person who is all of this and more, in the time of trouble when they need help the most, there is no God as the rest of us know Him. And if the white person being "God" only has him or her self to turn to, there is no other option to them that seems more attractive than suicide. White people have to realize that they can't have it both ways; if you want to be able to turn to God like the rest of us in a normal way to save yourself when you are at your lowest, then be able to admit that like the rest of us at times you are the lowest in your attitude and you have to be able to see that other races and other kinds of people besides yourself can hold the answers when you don't. White people know all, possess all, own all, but when they see this kind of special attention from all, all of the time, it gets old, boring, depressing, and stale to them. Know wonder they commit suicide; they literally in the end can't stand themselves.

Suicide is more to do with culture than race so you're looking through blinkered eyes already.

Suicide levels in Oriental and Asian countries are much higher.

There are other ethnic groups other than Black, Hispanic and White.

OKay, I studied this is sociology (Read the last paragraph on Emile Durkheim). It has NOTHING to do with race. What is does have to do with is culture (example Protestants commit more suicides than Catholics). Western cultures are individualistic and largely Protestant. Individualism stresses your own needs over the community. Think about what your parents told you growing up. Get a good job, do what makes you happy, your life is your own so live it to the fullest, learn to love yourself before anyone else etc. All of these statements reflect the culture we live in. Countries in western and northern Europe and northern America share the same values in life such as individuality, hard work, etc. Collectivist cultures such as in Asia and southern Europe emphasize the role of serving the greater good rather than yourself. They put more emphasis on the extended family (Catholics, African American culture, Hispanic culture, Italian, Greek, other south European cultures). For example, Asian children often go into professions of which their parents have advised.

Also it has been proven that people in lower socioeconmic classes tend to emphasize family, blending in, being normal and religion, while people who grow up in an American and western society stress becoming an individual, setting your self apart etc. (for example the different groups in high schools like preps, skaters, goths, or even books on finding yourself)

All these things in our society are great, but it turns out that having a family structuree gives you something to fall back on whereas living individually where you hold alot of responsiblity for your life means often you are left out on your own and if you fail, you are more likely to take it harder because you believe there is something wrong with you.

Emile Durkheim did a study on this in the 1800s:

Durkheim developed the concept of anomie later in Suicide, published in 1897. In it, he explores the differing suicide rates among Protestants and Catholics, explaining that stronger social control among Catholics results in lower suicide rates. According to Durkheim, people have a certain level of attachment to their groups, which he calls social integration. Abnormally high or low levels of social integration may result in increased suicide rates; low levels have this effect because low social integration results in disorganized society, causing people to turn to suicide as a last resort, while high levels cause people to kill themselves to avoid becoming burdens on society. According to Durkheim, Catholic society has normal levels of integration while Protestant society has low levels. This work has influenced proponents of control theory, and is often mentioned as a classic sociological study.

If you allow yourself to play stupid when thinking about the answer to this question. "Daaaaaaa, there's more white people in the world than non white. So obviously the likeliness of committing suicide or even the likeliness of eating a hamburger is going to be a greater amongst the white people.

you need to look at the fiscal demographic, too....when minorities commit suicide, they are usually people in poverty who kill themselves out of sheer despair...but they are less likely to despair than they are to try to deal with their troubles in other ways (even if it means turning to substance abuse)..the silly white folks usually do it out of sheer selfishness...especially iun america, where people are used to being spoon-fed everything and not having to wait for or suffer through anything...for awhile, it was even faddish for young girls to be "depressive/suicidal"....it's an easy out, a way around coping with one's responsibilities....culturally, the middle class white citizen is less concerned with his overall responsibilities than with his own personal troubles. they want an immediate solution to their problems, and death seems to be the most expedient fix-all.
pure selfishness, through and through....this goes for men and women (the women are just less likely to succeed....but middle class white men and women are still most often the ones trying to off themselves for no logical reason)
