Wow. What a question.

Well, I work in mass communication, so I'll try to answer fairly objectively. Mass communication includes print--newspapers and magazines--electronic--radio and television--and internet--blogs, etc.

By the way I am a radio news anchor on a news-talk station. I work overnights and am a pretty small cog on a pretty large wheel.

Most observers would say right now the internet has largely displaced the electronic media in providing updated news to the public, but electronic media remain strong. Print media are influential, but probably not as important in reaching people as electronic media or the internet media.

Internet media are also often considered the least credible as most bloggers don't really have to answer for what they post. Generally media observers consider print media to be the most credible of the main mass communications methods.

People get their news and information from mass media. A well-informed person should be familiar with all three main media categories. If you access them regularly you will get opposing views and will get to sort out all kinds of contradictory reports from different sources. Talk radio is probably one of the most effective current media because it does offer the best forum for opposing views.

Most current media try to balance their news and present what they report fairly, but news media are often biased. This is true of all types.

A well-informed person will not rely exclusively on any one news source but will review as many as possible to get the total picture from as many views as possible.

They play indeed a big roll but it makes also the people tired of the news , and also today's mass communication instruments are manipulated specially in big countries they are property of some big business which like every other things are controlled by them.
but I personally like the Internet eventhogh it is controlled, and their are some voices which are not really from some independent person, but steel it is a very good way of infromation flow , and also Education since their are sometimes very intelligent comments

Years ago, we usually got the national news about 6:00 pm from one of three channels for 30 minutes. The news was repeated again at 10:00 or 11:00 PM depending upon your time zone. Now, with 24/7 news from CNN, FOX , MSNBC etc. we rarely rely on the local channels for our news. Also, the Internet gives us access to a variety of sources to get the news whenever we want it. People are relying less on the "printed page" (newspapers) and are going to the Internet or cable news to get the most current report on various issues. We have choices on whom we want to get our news and we are more informed. Sometimes, there is "overkill" about a particular story, but we can always change channels and hope to get something else.
