Why is it when I wear darkened, mirror sunglasses that hide my eyes, I feel absolutely no shame, shyness or self consciousness?

When I put snglasses on, I look people directly in the eye and say whatever I want to say to them and they get nervous (touching their faces, covering blemishes etc.)

However, when I take the glasses off, all the sudden I have trouble looking people in the eyes and I feel self conscious?

The sunglasses are your shield to the world.
You are able to be more confident when you have them on because you dont have to expose all of your raw emotion from your eyes. Try not to do it too much tho, because it can make some people weary of your company.

Sunglasses do do something to people who aren't the typical chatter people person. It's as if you were wearing a mask and because of that sheild your inhabitions are more free. Just think that when you are talking with someone with the glasses even though you feel hidden thye see you. All shyness aside you are the same person. i think this kind of thing takes time. People are naturally a certain way, not to say you can't change and become less shy. but for now glasses on, why not. Just get comfortable being you.

It has been my experience that when people do not want to look me in the eye it is because they are lying or have something to hide.

Maybe there is something in your past that you are ashamed of and you think people can see right through you, so hiding behind sunglasses you feel that you are hiding that?

your shy, you think that when you have sunglasses on that people don't know you are looking at them. you must not like to get stared at and if you do you flip out and during a conversations you probably don't look people right in the eye. it's a self esteem issue

I understand this, because I used to hide behind sunglasses myself. Probably when your eyes are covered by the sunglasses, you feel that you are protected, so you don't feel as vulnerable as when you take them off.

Ever heard the expression that our eyes are the window to our soul. Your fear probably isnt people seeing you but rather them seeing right through you. People with insecurities tend to feel more comfortable covered up because they are afraid that if someone sees them as they are then all of their secrets will be uncovered.

Perhaps unawares, getting close to truth ! !
The function of eyes is not merely "seeing" , "looking" , "beholding" , "observing" , "perceiving" etc !
If experience deepens, one can experience that seeing etc, is least of the functions of eyes !
Communication, as one of the functions of eye, is more effective when eye to eye contact is made.
Powerful persons can use their eyes to even have effective control on weaker ones through eye to eye contact !
It is the inner force through the eyes that makes a weaker person a bit shy, nervous etc when looking into the eyes of a stronger person !

Your glasses give you a safezone that you can hide behind. When you take them off, you give away how or what you are feeling and it makes you nervous. I think this happens to a lot of people.

You are still hiding just like a speaker does behind a podium. or even sometimes how a performer will with a microphone. Its all the same somehow you are hiding even with a small microphone.

In your mind the sunglasses become a mask, hiding your feelings and camouflaging your identity.

Without them you are insecure about yourself. I wouldn't worry about it. It's not all that uncommon.
