Everyone is failing to realize that the answer to your questions is not a number, it is an equation and a defined variable. For this you should write:

X = The amount of pounds Connie lost each week

145 - 125 = 6x

That's the answer. The instructions do not say to solve the equation, simply to write one.

The reason this is the answer is pretty easy once you understand it. 145 - 125 gives the total weight lost, which is 20 pounds that was lost over a period of 6 weeks. This means that the answer, when multiplied by 6, will equal twenty. To express this, you write "6x" which means 6 times X if you weren't aware.

Beginning of Week 1, she weighed 145 lbs. The End of Week 6, she weighed 125 lbs. Subtract the two weights.

145-125=20 lbs

She lost a total of 20 lbs in 6 weeks. Since u wanna find how much pounds she lost in 1 week, u divide 20lbs by 6 weeks.

20/6=3 and 2/6 which is 3 and 1/3 or 3.33 repeated

She lost 3 1/3 lbs. or 3.33 (repeated) lbs.

Hope that was clear :). Please mark as the best answer. Thank You. =]

You must be going to a publik skool. These are fake non-algebra questions you are posing, disguised as algebra. They are all simple math, just adding and subtracting obvious numbers. No algebra, or "variables," need to be involved.

If Connie loses 20 pounds in 6 weeks, divide 20 by 6 to get the weekly loss. If you can't get that on your own, you are in much more trouble than can be helped here.

let x= the number of pounds connie lost total
let y= the number of pounds connie lost each week

x=145-125 (pounds start - pounds finish)
x=20

y=20/6 (total pounds lost / # of weeks)
y=3.3333333 or 3 1/3

hope this helps

she weighed 145 pounds six weeks back..
she weighs 125 pounds now............
so she lost a total weight of 20 pounds in six weeks
so the weight lost per week is 20/6= 3.33333333 pounds
