If you just did it today or yesterday, the best things to do are rest it, apply an ice bag, put on an ace bandage, and elevate it to about the level of your heart (easier done if sitting or in bed).

You can remember these steps for the future with the acronym RICE: rest, ice, compression, and elevation

Ice for 1-2 days. You can actually use a foot bath with ice water and Epsom salt. The Epsom salt will reduce inflammation a bit but is mostly used for the soreness. Epsom salt works especially well on muscles. After you have the swelling down a bit, pump the area by using hot and cold alternately one right after the other for 15-20 minutes a pop. This will increase nutrients to the area and accelerate healing. Good luck and hang in there....

Salt is good for getting rid of inflamation...but hot water is not what you want right now! The best thing you can possibly do is ice it and stay off it. Try putting the ice on for five minutes, leave it off for five, then put it back on for five. Do this three times a day if possible. Don't wear heals until your ankle is completely better.

if u just twisted ur ankle u need to elevate it and put ice on it- if it's swelling and bruising then u might of fractured it- if so ur gonna have to either go the er or the doctor tomorrow! i know it hurts i've done it to both of my ankles and the elevation and ice really does help i think heat makes it swell worse!

never heard that before

I would think that ice water or ice would be best seing that you need to prevent it from swelling and heat will make it swell don't do that

Also after you ice for 20-30min you should keep it elevated above your heart so that the blood doesn't rush right into it. If not better in three days go see the doc
