I'm surprised that Baptists even admit there is such a thing as gays in the community.
They don't even recognize each other at Hooters.........

Well first off let me state that not all baptists are hateful and frown on the GLBT community. The one website everyon likes to throw around www.godmademegay.com the guy that was the preacher was a baptist preacher. Baptists at the moment get a bad rap imo because of that church out in Tennesee that is like 90% family and likes to go pickett the funerals of dead soldiers. As for the Wal Mart thing like everyone else said it's the law not to discriminate so I don't exactly see how Wal Mart supports our community.

Wal Mart contributes millions every year to the GLBT, and is now going public with their support.
Sam, and Bud Walton would turn over in their graves if they new this. They founded Wal Mart on Biblical principals, and ran it that way as long as they were alive. This is just one example of how far their children have run it into the ground.
The Baptists are not being hateful, they are just following the Word of God.

They're probably not really hateful they just believe in God. Since they believe in the God and the bible, they believe the GLBT Community isn't right. Wal Mart supports all the wrong people (not saying that the GLBT Community is) because they can barely support their own damn employees.

It's not only Baptists, almost everyone is hateful anymore and they just get too excited over the dumbest things. I don't care who they support or why they support them myself. If I want to shop there I will. Quite a few years ago a rumor got started that Proctor and Gamble supported some satanic church and some of my religious obsessed family wouldn't buy their products anymore. I think it's all just stupid that it's so easy for people to be like this.

Walmart was kiss assing the gay community to make a larger profir this year. Oops....then the baptist church found out about it. They decided the only way to punish Walmart for having the audacity to make more money from us qu**rs was to boycott the stores. It's just pure ignorance and stupidity on the part of the church. And anyone who follows the church's teachings will do what the church says.
I hope you both are old enough to live on your own. You two need to come out of the closet and get in her face about her ideas. It's going to be harder for her to contibue with this unjustified hatred when her daughter announces her lesbianism. Maybe it will open her eyes. On the other hand, be prepared for ignorance to rear it's ugly head. Your partner's mom might just disown her. Hope for the best (reaction) and prepare for the worst. By staying in the closet, you are allowing her to put more fuel on the flames (of hatred ) toward our community. If you're not sure about coming out to her, contact pflag.com (it's a nat'l support, educational, advocacy group of parents and families/friends of GLBT people). Don't come out to her until you're ready but don't wait too long either. My best. HUGS! . .

Wal-Mart, a company well known for its conservative culture, says it will not tolerate discrimination based on sexual orientation, and the nation's largest retailer now specifically includes homosexual employees in its anti-discrimination policy.
Wal-Mart's new policy was a result of efforts by several investment management firms, including the Seattle, Wash.-based Pride Foundation, which had purchased stock in the company and considered putting forward a shareholder resolution asking the corporation to change its policy.
This image led a 'conservative' family group to accuse the Wal-Mart of buckling to the homosexual agenda by choosing to include private bedroom behavior in its corporate handbook.
Personally I think Wal-Mart took a bold step in the right direction by saying it would not tolerate discrimination period.

I hate Wal Mart. Does this mean I should now shop there to support their LGBT support? Eeewww.
Baptists can be narrow, ignorant, bigoted idiots - kinda like all other religious fanatics. I wish you and your partner the best of luck.

Recently (http://www.equalityforum.com/fortune500/) Wal-Mart moved towards joining the other fortune 500 companies as part of project to move American business towards domestic partners rights (http://www.equalityforum.com/fortune500/)
As to why Baptists are so hateful, it is because they (like all other organized churches) are not about the message of love and forgiveness of the Jesus, but about political control over a community and enforcement of values.

Anytime a gay man or woman walks into a commerical place of business and buys anything....the baptists condemn that place of business as "gay friendly".
Anyone who refuses to shop at any store just because some old intolerant coot says not too......well they are just idiots.
I doubt her mother's boycott is going to last long. Where else is she going to shop (let alone find cheap prices?)

Baptists are hateful, because they are and it's easy when you can use someone like Jesus to justify your hatred and biggotry, it takes the blame off of you. That said, Wal-Mart deserves to lose business because of their anti-humanity stances, regardless of how they support the LGBT community, it's just lip service.
