I have road runner and AIM. I downloaded the yahoo messenger and the next thing I knew everyone from Yahoo answers was on Messenger trying to get ahold of me. It was such a pain I got rid of it.

i downloaded AIM, it may have it's own benefits for the user but personally i found it not user friendly at all.
yahoo is always better. go for Yahoo! Beta version 7.5 Messenger. this version is way better than 8.0 that is currently offered. i met really good people through Y! messenger. all of them have become my best buddies now. but use discretion to pick the best chat room. some places are real dumb and nasty. i met good people in "hobbies & crafts" section. check it out.
above all, it's genuineness that establishes a good friendly relationship between two people. always give room to people, my policy. ask me about it.

I like messenger. I have a lot of friends that use Yahoo, and they can see when I am online and say hello. It really doesn't take long to download, and there are a lot of features to it besides just chat. You can also send files and share pictures with messenger. Plus you can share your webcam pics on it.

try Trillian www.trillian.cc it incorporates AIM, Yahoo Messenger, MSN, ICQ etc into a pretty light and non-buggy little program. Some advanced features in each program dont work, but most do. And all your friends are in one buddy list and color coded by program. Nice little program.

yeah, I had AIM and nobody else did so I got Y IM and it is awesome
