i just bought a 96 plymouth neon tonight and it may need a ball bearing or ball joint in the rear passenger side. i paid $750 for it so i am not too upset or anything...how long does it take for something to happen with it? i need to start working and get at least one paycheck so i can take care of it. would the wheel just break off or what? it's only moves in a little bit when i use my foot to push the top of the wheel.

Not a good sign.
A rear wheel bearing is an easy and inexpensive fix. I doubt the wheel will fall off but driving it could cause more damage or seizure. For $750.00 be prepared to fix it often -- the little things will eat you alive sometimes worse than major repairs.

You must be refering to the ball joints located on both left and right front wheels only. each wheel has an upper and lower ball joint. If you can push in on the top of tire the upper ball joint is bad and needs replacing a s a p . Yes the wheel can break loose while driving causing more damage and more expense. My advise is don't drive it until you can afford to get it repaired. The only thing you have on the rear wheels are struts, no ball joints. You can get buy for awhile with a bad strut. good luck

Rear wheels have bearings that are worn out. The bearings won't cost that much to replace if you know someone who can change them, however, paying a real mechanic will cost you. Shop labor is very costly and most are $45 + per hour. Find someone to replace them for you and you could have it done for under $50. I hope you have better luck with the little Dodge than I did with mine........good luck !
