I'd like to go back and prevent Hitler from orchestrating his atrocities.
I'd like to go back and prevent all of the terrorist attacks on the U.S.A. and every other country for that matter.
I'd like to go back and prevent my brother's heart attack and sudden death at the age of 40.
I'd like to go back and prevent...well lots of things

The events that I wish I could change are those regarding the consolidation of the Roman Catholic Church's current set of beliefs and tenets, as well as the selection process for scriptures to be included in what would eventually be the Bible. After all, those tenets were not preordained by God (merely interpreted by scholars), and the selection process for the documents that were considered Holy Scripture was also biased in certain ways. Had it not been so, then perhaps Catholicism - and hence, Western culture - would have been far more tolerant and accepting of other faiths and views of life, leading to far fewer wars over religion as well as to various other events such as the atrocities committed by the Inquisition.
For purely speculative purposes, I would like to know what would happen had Zheng He's massive fleet been used not only to collect treasure and explore new lands, but also to conquer Europe. During that time, the Ming Chinese fleet was bigger (both in terms of the number of ships and the size of the ships themselves) than any other fleet that Europe could put together, and given the superior technology that the Chinese had at the time (think: gunpowder), they could have easily overwhelmed many of the European nations, which at that time had been severely weakened by plague or were split up into many different warring factions.

Actually two major events I would like to see occur again for the better are:
1. Independence of India from the British, without the separation of West and East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). This, I believe, would have brought immense benefits to both Muslims and Hindus in India and
2. The removal of Saddam Hussein, without dropping all those bombs on Iraq (i.e. without war). A lot of horrific problems in Iraq and generally all over Middle East could have been avoided if Saddam had been exiled and the people of Iraq left to manage their country.

So many better choices, and obviously anyway of adverting either the first or second world wars and thus saving the millions upon millions of soldiers and civilians who died - how that would have affected all the nations involved from Russia, across Europe to America, Australia, South East Asia, Japan and on - all those lives actually lived, the 100,000s of men who died almost daily in the trenches of the first world war, imagining those men at home with their wives, the children having their fathers a whole generation who lived - the second world war and all those families with their husbands, wives, children living normal, full lives....... its almost unimaginable, so huge are the numbers of lives it would touch, all the damage, personal and on a world scale it would undo...

I believe that for each of us, we want to change many things in history. If given a chance, we would want to change everything right from the beginning from the point of Adam's sin. Because from that time onwards, we get all the things that we do not want in life - death, illnesses/sicknesses, sadnesses, depression, greed, anger, hatred, lust, and all kinds of evil. History repeats itself someone said and that is very true. This means that we on our own strength is incapable of changing the future (which will become history) to be different from the history we know today.
Isn't it amazing and comforting then to know that God who loves us is in control and all these will one day pass away and we will be in a place where it will be perfect.

The evolution of ape into human...It would save a lot of problems
If not the evolution and invention of religion, that would save alot of problems throughout history. How many wars have been done in the name of religion?...Every world religion has caused conflict in the name of their god. Everyone without fail...many pople insult islam for what is happening today, look at Hitler that was because people choose to follow Judaism and Hitler was a bigot. Look at the crusades when the Christians murdered all of those people to teach them about the love of god...yeah right
Look at isreal and palestine, Jew versus Muslim. There have been wars between every religion. Sikh and Muslim, Christian and Muslim, Christian and Sikh.

It would be fascinating to see what would have happened if the European settlers had been beaten by the Native Americans, and they had developed their cultures without interference.
Equally interesting is what would have happened if King Harold had won the Battle of Hastings and beaten Willam the Conqueror.
