Most of the time the girls think they are trying to be funny by using dumb pick up lines, so it starts a conversation and from there it continues to more.

Our culture does this to us guys. Media, our environment, everything around us makes it seems like these corny line will work. It does not help the matter that sometimes they actually do. Some women easily fall for lines from a sweet talker and that is why these lines sometimes work. The blame can not be put solely on men's shoulders. Women are just at fault for believing in the lies that are presented to them too. All of us need to look more into a person we like and see who they truly are. That way we all can avoid broken hearts less often and dealing with corny lines that women do not want to hear and not ALL guys like to say or use.

Well, I think it's because everybody is basically insecure. And let's face it, nobody wants to get their feelings hurt. So I guess it's a safety valve so they can say, Hey, it wasn't me. I just used the wrong pick-up line. I mean come on, egos are fragile, aren't they? If you were interested in a guy, wouldn't you be afraid of saying the wrong thing and looking like a total jerk? Better to blame it on a line than to admit you were wearing your heart on your sleeve for all the world to see and people made fun of you for doing so. I mean, guys have feelings, just like girls. Don't you act dumb in front of guys you like and then later worry about it?

Lack of sincerity. Any guy who is intent on just 'picking up' a girl is basically just looking for a one-night-stand (or however long he can get it). I always liked to just sit beside a woman at the bar/counter/wherever and say HI, then just take it from there. I NEVER let sex become a topic for discussion, because it was ALWAYS a bad deal. Don't EVER go on a date with a guy who can't look you in the eyes and treat you as his equal, or especially treat you with the UTMOST respect. Manners are also a +.

I wouldn't know - I've never used one and only recently had some young people (I'm over 45, ok?) tell me what sort of stuff has been said all these years - but from what I've heard they all sound lame anyway! If I were a chick hearing them I'd think the guy had a limited imagination.

acttually, guys are dumb like thier lines but it's hard to tell, guys are always like that. one thing u should know, with that dumb pick up line, girls always like it. and guy always get his girl with that dumb pick up line. make sure u ignore if u don't like it

Because they are just as nervous about "making the move" to introduce themselves as you are. If you like the guy (even if his pick up line is corny), go for it. He could be the one!
