I am an atheist. I don't know if a god exists, I don't give a ****.

Yet...I will die for the ones I love, I will never cheat on my love, I will respect you and be kind to you, and put your problems ahead of mine. So why is it that most believe that if you're atheist you have no morals?

That just proves that atheists are liars, too!

I think there are a lot of self-proclaimed "strongly religious" people that do all of the things that religious people are supposed to do. And because of that, think they sit on a higher pedestal than others that don't blindly jump through the hoops. I'll use Christianity as an example because that is what I believe in. These people go to church on Sunday dressed up in their nicest clothes, they are in the church choir, they put their money in the offering plate, and receive their communion. Yet, when they leave church, they completely contradict the image they put forth during that hour. I believe that these people think that because they "pay their dues" for an hour a week, they have a free pass for the rest of the week, and ultimately that is sufficient in order to get to heaven.

I have a completely different paradigm. I happen to believe that God is watching all week, not just on Sunday. I don't attend church very often, but do try to do the right things throughout the week. You and I are not that different.

There was a quote from someone who slips my mind: If God didn't exist, it would be necessary to invent Him.

Basically, the concept is that the belief in a higher power helps our society to maintain some form of civility, and accountability. Apparently that is not necessary for you to have good morals, and more power to you.

Well, I am not most people, I'm a bit odd. Accordingly, I don't believe atheists have no morals, I think it's the people in organized churches who are much more likely to be morally lazy.

This is only a partial answer.

When people are members of a club (sports team, religion, nation, army, business, religion), they like to think of themselves and their club as better than the other guys.

Atheists not only don't belong to a different club, they don't belong to ANY club. They must be even worse, according to the hierarchy of things in the minds of club members.

Compare: IBM employee, Microsoft employee, Plumber. Obviously the plumber guy is "evil" because he has no geek credentials. It's the usual tribalism and small mindedness at work.

I don't believe that at all. And I respect your morals more because you do those things out of the goodness of your heart, not fear that God will punish you if you don't.

Cool, Holden and Paladin are long lost twins.

I'm fine with your morals, but I am a pagan so people think I don't have any morals and I'm doing the devil's work...who ever he is.

Atheism is knowing that God does not exist.

Agnosticism is not knowing...
