I'm mostly a hardware guy, but I see no future in computer hardware. I really want to get into software side of things. What should I learn to get me a better job in IT?

It depends on what you really like. Programming in C++, javascript, html, sql, xlm, Oracle can really give you a good base, but it's time consuming to learn. A couple of classes might tell you which direction you would like to go. There's also animation and graphics which is very popular! It's more than just doing movies - real estate, crime labs, science labs and many more have fascinating opportunites if you want to head in that direction!

Good Luck!

You may want to pick up some embedded programming skills to leverage your current skillset. There are not too many people who are embedded programmers who understand hardware that well - a problem that you would be well equipped to handle.

I am a softare kinda guy, but I took a hardware job in order to expand on my understanding of hardware. This is a decision that I have found to be extremely well worth the effort.

Best for your qualification would be to be an administrator. Better to join some course for that like NIIT or Jetking, etc.
