yes, it is true... but you'd better have a mechanic check it. Your heater core could be plugged, as well. You did check to make sure you still had antifreeze in there, didn't you?

The most common cause of the condition you are experiencing is a stuck thermostat. Other culprits could be low coolant level, inoperative water pump, broken water pump drive belt, or clogged hoses. By and large, however, a thermostat stuck closed is your problem (the thermostat prevents coolant from flowing until the engine gets warm, but if it remains closed, it will prevent coolant from circulating through the motor), causing it to overheat, as well as preventing hot water from getting to your heater.

Oh hell no! Many other things affect heater output. Heater controls are the first suspect. As long as water pump is circulating and car is running at normal temp, prob is in heater or in controls for heater. Car Hot? check belts first. Then have cooling system backflushed. Have cooling system pressure checked. Your problem may be as simple as a bad radiator cap.

If no hot air comes out it means there isn't enough coolant in the system. The water pump is one possible cause. It could be several other things as well.Fill up the radiator and then run the car and see if it leaks and where it's coming from.If it's the bearing in the water pump it will run out through the bottom of the pump.

If your radiator leaks, it won't have hot air coming out of it either but your gauge will show you overheating.

If you have a full radiator, if there is no coolant in it, it will do the same.
