Why hasn't the Federal Government declared that date a national holiday? We observe it with a few moments of silence, but then what? We should honor ALL who died in the attacks, except for those sand rats! We honor a black man for bringing equality to the black race, we honor dead presidents, we honor the birth of our nation, we honor the birth and death of our Savior. But what about all those who died in the attacks? I'm not looking for another paid day off, but having a National Holiday is the only way to properly honor all those who suffered this great tragedy. We miss you all!

I sincerely apologize to ALL those who helped with the crash sites of 9-11-2001. I didn't mean to exclude you from my National Holiday idea honoring those who perished in the horrific attacks. God Bless You All!!

A very timely and well-thought question. This is an excellent topic to bring up to your local political candidates -- it's election time. They want to know what's important to their constituents, and if you give them a good basis for your idea, they'll sit up and listen.

It wouldn't surprise me to find out that there may already be something in the works. But if it's to be a federal holiday, I imagine it has to go through the channels of writing a bill, getting it through both house votes, and signed into law by the President.

Seems to me there's a website where you can look up current bills being voted on...

Great question...

and by the way, the responder who said they don't care... I wonder if you'd be so smug saying that to the face of someone who lost a mom, a dad, a sibling or any loved one. I wonder if you'd say that to the families of the first responders who didn't come home from work that night .. or ever. You ought to get down on your knees and ask forgiveness for such a callous comment. Shame on you!

Nothing in government happens overnight. MLK holiday wasn't made into a holiday until many, many years after his death. Five years is too short a time to have this happen.

You could also ask why there isn't a national holiday for D-Day, Pearl Harbor, etc., etc. The people who died in those tragic events also deserve to be remembered. But I believe those fall under the National Holiday of "Memorial Day." So perhaps 9/11 should be grouped under "Memorial Day" as well.

A "HOLIDAY" WOULD BE INAPPROPRIATE.
WHAT I DO IS REMIND PEOPLE THAT IT WASN'T ONLY THE POLICE AND FIREMEN WHO WERE HERO'S.
MY BROTHER IS A N.J. STATE CORRECTIONS OFFICER. HE VOLUNTEERS FOR A UNIT THAT RESPONDS TO EMERGENCIES LIKE 9/11.
HE SPENT SEVERAL MONTHS AT GROUND ZERO DOING WHAT EVER HAD TO BE DONE, FROM ESCORTING FAMILY MEMBERS TO THE SITE TO DIGGING BODIES OUT OF THE RUBBLE.
NO ONES THANKED HIM AND HIS BRETHREN OR PUT UP A PLAQUE.
SO I POST THIS ALBUM OF PICTURES. THIS IS WHAT HE SAW, I DON'T ENVY HIM, BUT I AM VERY PROUD!

This shows us how much our representatives really care about us. Start a petition drive and get signitures then send it to your Congressman and see if anyone cares about all of the innocent lives taken and the families that have been left to suffer. You might be surprised.

Don't expect it. Last I heard, December 7 (Pearl Harbor attack) isn't even an official holiday in the US. But this website could be wrong.

They don't want to draw too much attention to it.
If too many people started thinking too seriously about 9/11, they would realise that it was an inside job, and that would cause those in government who perpetrated it to be impeached and jailed.

That is a perfect idea. I'll sign a petition if you get one started.

There are too many holidays, though they should drop one for this.
