most pythons are ambush predators beeing that they are big and easy for wildlife to see them coming if they move too much

Both. They have heat pits along the side of their mouth that lets them see heat trails like vipers. So the DO follow heat and scent trails. But if they have found a good hide where a lot of their natural food pass then they will bunker down and eat whatever comes by that they can swallow.

I have seen my own ball pythons hunt after their food and wait for the mouse to walk right by them.

Like most snakes, pythons don’t chase after their prey. Instead they are ambush hunters. They use both sight and smell to locate prey.

mine is a little of both, but he's in a tank so its a limited hunting ground. lol he does hunt down the mice tho.
