Take a childbirth class, and read "Birth Without Fear". As silly as you will feel, practice the breathing exercises when you have Braxton-Hicks contractions. You will be much better prepared. It really does work. Closing my eyes during a contraction and visualizing a flower opening up also helped me. Stay in the shower or in a tub of warm water. You will be amazed at how much this relaxes you! Worked for me! I had four that way!

Think about how women had babies BEFORE epidurals. I mean, we were born to breed and produce offspring.

However, truthfully, I ended up having an epidural with both of my children. The pain is like nothing you've ever felt. Also, my husband's sister was NOT going to have a pain medication, but after four hours of labor, she gave in. It is really tough when that option is open to you.

If you plan to have a natural birth, you MUST let the hospital know immediately upon arrival. They will also help you through the birthing process without medication. Also, your partner (husband or boyfriend) can help a lot by massaging your back and applying moist towelettes to your forehead while your in labor.

GOOD LUCK!!! Happy labor day!!!

I had a 10 pound baby and a 7 pound baby without drugs. But then again, I have a high tolerance for pain. To tell you the truth, I was so focused on getting my babies into this world that I didn't really pay attention to the pain while giving birth. When labor first started, I had back labor, and you CAN'T ignore that. lol Good luck!

A lot of walking and honestly, as much sex as possible until your water breaks. No intercourse after your water breaks as this could cause infection and may be fatal to your baby. My husband's aunt is head nurse at the hospital where I had both of my kids, and she gave me this very information and with both of them I had natural child birth and was only in hard labor for 5 minutes or less. Epidurals may lessen the pain, however, you usually take longer to have your baby because it also numbs you all the way down so you can't feel to push. It's not really as painful as most people say it is. Good luck!

Lamaze classes are very helpful and informative, but do not think for one minute that they will in any way ease the pain of labor and delivery. They do, however, help you focus and DEAL with the pain. Before my baby was born, my husband and I were all gung-ho about a drug-free labor. After about 8 hours, I admit, I gave in. And it was still about another 10 or 11 hours after THAT that my daughter was born. But don't be disheartened. Children are a gift...every second of the pain is worth it in the end.

Cut off your head?? Or have someone hit you over the head with a baseball bat?? I can't think of anything that would've got me through that w/out medication. I hate drugs/surgery, etc. but I would've let them amputate all my limbs if it would've stopped my pain from labor! lol I had to have a c-section after 20hrs. of excrutiating labor pains, and I welcomed it with open arms!!! ANYTHING to make it stop. I no longer think drugs are so bad after that. Who knows, maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones that has an easy labor. Good luck

Go to the lamaze classes. They will teach the breathing exersises and the way to rub your tummy to relax ,the most important thing is to pick a good couch, someone who will stay calm and can advocate for you.

Squeeze like hell on your partners hands, breathe deeply, and dont worry....a few months down the track you will not really remember how much pain you were in....especially when you are on your 6th night straight with only 2 hours sleep.

I don't know if it will help you, but I brought in books that I knew would engross me. With my daughter's babies, we cracked jokes until the doctor threatened to kick me out(she had no sense of humour). anything that will make you concentrate and take your mind off the pain seems to help.Needle point, jigsaw puzzles. anything at all.

take a lamaze class. It's all in how you comfort yourself, a massage, rocking, breathing etc. Main thing, remain calm! A lamaze class will help with all of this, very helpful if haivng a natural birth
