quality of these cars like no other iv'e ever driven based on this and the love of diesel motor's and their trouble free history i am wondering what mercedes model or series in the year models having the layed back head lamps, i suppose upper 90 models or so, which cars are the best over all on fuel comfort and trouble free service to the owners, i would like a mid size car with very smooth lines and a inline diesel motor plan to spend around $10.000 to $12.000 could anyone give me solid addvice on the model to look for, thanks so much for your time on this, have a good day.

I know the e series cars are kinda the lower end. I was a trim technician for 14 years and even though I didn't work on engines or drive trains, I had plenty of experience with all models of Mercedes. One of my larger accounts was a body shop that specialized in high end cars like Mercedes and BMW's. The techs there didn't like the smaller ones, said they had too many problems. I would go for one of the larger models. They are put together better. I know they are more expensive, but I think you will have less problems out of them.

go with a 90's 300td it is perfectly what you describe with enhanced performance it is hard to find but well worth it for a car to last as long as they do.
