Tobacco is far more frowned upon. I am a former smoker and have experienced the harsh comments from others. I never was one to say that smoking was my right or anything like that. I knew it was bad, but I was addicted.

It seems like our society makes alcohol cool. I mean, college means drinking. Period.

Well, a lot of people frown upon smoking because second hand smoke is bad for the other people around them, but since you say this question is not in a healthy realm, I guess I would have to say alcohol, because what else does a cigarette do? It's a pointless stick that does nothing but harm your health... Alcohol cause a person to become inebriated, and talk incoherently, and every so often would cause a person to fight inside a bar, and pee in public, and have sex with strangers. If you take the health aspect out, the answer is simple

Smokers not alcoholics are the new second class citizens in this country. Never mind that the Smoking Nazi's' own 30 year study on second hand smoke came to the conclusion that with the exception of people with breathing problems pre-existing (think asthma) there were no long term effects in the test group when compared to the control group. Go figure it didn't get a big write up, but was buried.
Never the less, every school child knows second hand smoke kills you!
So in short...tobacco.

personally, i would say that that alcohol wreaks more havoc in society than tobacco ever could. Who has heard of someone going home and beating up on their wife because they smoked 10 cigarettes? What happens when someone has 10 beers or shots? they act like freaking lunatics and are a nuisance to society as a whole, pissing in the streets, yelling, vomiting. Oh yeah give me a smoker any day......

I dont know which ones causes more deaths between second hand smoke and drunk driving, but I know that life would be alot less fun without alcohol, so i think society would be better off w/o tobacco.

Alcohol. I've never heard of anybody beating, killing or do some other awful thing after smoking a cigarette. I do know that most criminals that are locked up are there because of drugs or Alcohol. Alcoholism is serious, My father was an alcoholic, and it is just horrible to see someone so addicted.

Alcohol is most likely to cause impaired judgment and(immediate) possible harm to self and others.
Anymore smoking is frowned upon. I get offered a beer but never a smoke.

Both have long term costly medical problems.
But, alcohol is involved in 1/2 of all fatal vehicle crashes. that is over 25,000 people every year! And more kids are killed than adults this way. Mostly as passengers.

I would say smokers. Not withstanding the affects of second hand smoke, smokers stink. Literally. People who smoke don't realize how they smell as they are surrounded by the odor all day and all night so they become accustomed to it. But to non smokers it's a harsh odor that wraps around someone. It's present in their hair, skin, and all over their clothes. It yellows your skin and fingernails, and at the end you get that "smokers pinch" to your face. Yuck

Tobacco. Most of the counties in my state (Indiana) have banned smoking from public facilities. But yet, they still allow alcohol consumption in them.
