I heard that James Taylor in his Herion days "gave" Blackbird to Paul McCartney if he could hook him up. this is from a VERY reputable source. If You listen to the song structure and lyrical delivery it is very similar toJames tayor. Just wondering if anybody else heard this story.

No--it is a Macca tune. He described writing it, as I heard him tell the story introducing the song during last year's tour I was at, that George and himself were playing a Bach tune (and "messing it up") with the bass and the upper string plucked at the same time. He wrote it mostly as a song about the
Civil Rights movement in the US as he was going to call it "Black Girl" among other working titles; "you were only waiting for this moment to arise". JT did pen some great tunes but he did not write Blackbird however.
(Trivia- did you know that JT was the first artist signed to the Beatles " Apple" label)

No - it is Paul's. There is some footage of him playing around with an early version when the Beatles were with the Maharishi in India. Definitely Paul.

It's like asking if Hoagy Carmichael wrote 'Honey Pie'. No. ;)

not true. If you check the release dates of it and when Taylor signed with Apple you'd come to a different conclusion.

My sources would know.

It's a rumor. spread by a rumor monger.
