I am about five years behind when it comes to PC games, mostly because I lag behind in hardware capability and frankly am too cheap to cough up any more than five bucks for a game.
I have recently played the Deus Ex series, the No One Lives Forever series, and the Max Payne series. I loved all three and am looking for games that are similar and enjoyable. I have not played half-Life series yet so don't need to mention that one..

Call of Duty series is the Best. Has got good missions and the music is good. Medal of Honour series is also good. Try Brother in Arms series really cool.

Half-life 2 ( + episodes) You don't need to play half-life 1 to enjoy the latest
Best ever!
Counter strike for networked (classic)
runs on anything better than a Geforce 5400 so you don't need the latest

Americas Army (Its free: www.americasarmy.com)
Counter strike source ( Its around $20)
Battlefield 2 (its not only shooting,but you can use vehicles and aircrafts.)
Theres plenty more go search and youll find a good one.
