When I go to Disney, I stay at one of the value resorts. You can stay there for about $70/night. I normally only go to the Disney parks, so I use their free transportation and save the cost of a rental car. The other resorts are beautiful, don't get me wrong, but I don't like to spend a lot of money for someplace that I pretty much only sleep in. I go to "visit" the other resorts. Check out the shops and restaurants, I get to enjoy the pricey resorts without the added costs.
If you want to go to other parks off Disney property, you can get a shuttle for a nominal fee. (for one or 2 days it would be cheaper than renting a car)
I usually book my resort and purchase Disney tickets directly through the Disney website, then get my air transport directly from the airline's website. You then call Disney and tell them your flight info so they can pick you up at the airport.
Have a great vacation!
Oh, one more tip, if you are looking to save some money, try sharing meals! My son (he is 24) and I do this quite often. You get plenty to eat, you won't be too "stuffed", and you save money!

Walt Disney World is expensive. I just got back from my vacation there a few weeks ago. There was only two of us that went. We stayed at a Walt Disney World Resort, the Polynesian, and were on the Platinum Plan and it cost $9,274.82 It was worth every penny, though.
