Honey, the time frame for divorces starts out at three months minimum and can go on for years depending on settlement agreements. There is honestly know way of knowing how these things will work out. What I can tell you, from experience, is that since they already agreed to the children part of this process, they've more than likely already agreed on everything else. It leads me to believe this is not one of those divorces that is going to last awhile.

When a person files for divorce, it takes about a month to get a court date. Once they appear at that courtdate and the court hears the petition for divorce, they are granted 90 days as a cooling off period in case they change their minds. After that 90 days, they go back to court and a divorce is granted. To make this easy, I'm saying that the least amount of time you'll have with your friend is four months. Make it a good four months honey!

Well of course her mother will have custody of your friend, your step dad isn't her father. Anyway depending on the type of divorce, child support issues, property separation, finance separations and the state they are in (If in the U.S.) it can take anywhere from 3 months to 5 years. My divorce was final in 6 months but that was because we had no property to split and had already agreed on the child support issue and finances. There was no going to court, he signed the papers, I signed the papers and it was over. It isn't always that "easy" though.

My divorce took 8 months, there is no way of telling. Enjoy your friend's company a lot right now, your friend will need you around. Hopefully they won't have to move but if they do you could plan ways to stay in touch. Good Luck to you both.

There is no set time limit for a divorce to become final. It all depends on the varying degree of what needs to be decided such as material possessions, children, pets, and so on.

Could take weeks just to get the paperwork in order, then they have to get on the docket and appear in court, then they have 60 days for the judge to sign it. In short, a long time.
