I didn't find the movie believable. He is able to so easily spear fish in shallow water. Also his crude raft was amazingly high tech and durable for such primitive technology. As a bit of trivia the item that was inside the unopened FedEx package was a portable solar powered sattelite telephone. LOL the poor SOB couldn't prevented his girlfriend getting nailed by Mr. Big. (That is Chris Noth's character from Sex and the City and he plays Helen Hunt's husband in this film.)

Are you talking the Character or the actor? The actor lost about 40 pounds over the course of shooting the film. And it really wasn't an island. The Character acted for survival..I suspect we all would do the same in one way or another.

People would do whatever it takes to survive, that's the nature of all humans. Say... you touch the stove right? it's hot? ya what do you do? you just pull your hand out immediately without even thinking right? why? because it's the homeostasis that help us to survive dangers. IN this case, Hanks got abundant amont of foods on the island, all he's missing is some love ;). I mean if you think about it... ancient people live this land one day, tomorrow they settle down at another place, sheeze humans still survived and reproduced :D ;)

How difficult it must be to adapt to a warm, sunny climate all year round. How did he adapt to being brought catering to his private house on the beach. Life must have been rough for tom hanks during that shoot.
