I had a dental surgery on August 22nd.I was given antibiotics(Amoxcicillin) that lasted for ten days,ending on August 31st.I had started a new pack of birth control pills on August 28th.How long should I wait before having sex?I always use condoms with my boyfriend anyway but Im super paranoid about this stuff and would like to know.Is the whole pack of pills ineffective because of the antibiotics or just the first few pills?

It is good that you use a back up method like you are while taking the amoxicillin and continue to do so one week after stooping the amoxicillin. Basically the amoxicillin can affect the effectiveness of the birth control for one week after you stop taking it.

My wife says that it is 2 weeks that you must wait. As long as you've been taking your pills regularly during this time, they will regain effectiveness at the end of the 2 weeks.

To be safe, you need to use a backup method (condom) for 2 weeks after the course of antibiotics.

My daughter got pregnant while on birth control and taking antibodics. I would call the doctor or the doctor's nurse to get the correct answer. Otherwise, you might get some bad advice and wind up pregnant!

here is a tip anti-biotics decrease the potency of the pills meaning it makes them less effective so if you must have sex tell your partner to use a condom till the anti-biotic is gone
